31 cadillac water pump

Hello, I have a 31 Cadillac v8, it leaks antifreeze, I have tightened all hoses, but it still leaks bad, I have a shop manual and it says to turn down, a knob on top of the water pump, and grease, I have not been able to get it to come off, it looks like the top of a dipstick, and it will turn but it will not come up, the antifreeze is dripping out from under this knob. I don't know if this is my only leak, but it is the most obvious right now, if anyone can help, I would really appreciate it.

At the risk of over simplifying it, turn it counter clock wise until it come off. It may take more then a few turns. Fill it full of water proof grease and replace.

Is there a large brass fitting on the shaft? If so, it may also need tightening.

The pump has to come off, the shaft and bushing are worn, that's why it's leaking so bad.The grease will not hold back that much water pressure, it's intended to lubricate the shaft, as well as providing a kind of water lock, within the OEM specifications.Good luck Johan

Hello, thanks for the reply, I have turned it counterclockwise, for a while and it seems loose like it is stripped or something, there is a ring on the bottom, I don't know if it should be connected or not, I cannot see a brass fitting anywhere.
