I seem to be in a similar boat as you: no response to a post! I will share my experiences with you regarding cleaning up chrome. First, the chrome plating is extremely thin as well as relatively hard. When a scuff becomes visible, it means that something has been able to penetrate the chrome layer to a depth that may approach the total depth of that layer. What usually happens when you try to buff out the scratch is that you remove a significant part of the chrome. This is not easy as the chrome is fairly hard. You may get lucky and remove just enough to get rid of the scratch, or you may remove enough of the chrome that it begins to take on a kind of golden hue. When this appears, you are about through the chrome layer. It may not be particularly visible until you get into bright sunlight. My suggestion is that you try buffing with white rouge. If you haven't made much of a difference in a few minutes, you should probably leave well enough alone, and plan on rechroming that piece when your inheritance comes in. I have buffed clear through chrome using stainless polishing compound on more than one occasion and had to rechrome anyway. This advice may not be the answer, but it's what has happened to me. Good luck. Now, what do you know about decoding a Chrysler trim tag?
