  1. Can anyone offer information on the size of the bolts for attaching a 55 Roadmaster reqr bumper and also where they can be found. I think places like Advance and O'Reilly's carry themm but I have no idea about the quality. Any hepl would be appreciated. Thanks!

  2. I am restoring a set of 56 spinner hub caps and have a question about the square decorative trim that goes all the way around the outside of the cap in line with the valve stem hole. These indentations appear to be coated with something that has a rough, silver finish, almost like relective silverpaint, although I am pretty sure it is not reflective. What can be used to refinish these areas of the cap or is it better to remove the finish that is there leaving a bright SS finish?

  3. Are front doors interchangeable for all four Buick models in 1955 or are the doors for the RM and Super different than those for a Special or Century? My car is a 55 RM 2 door hardtop Riviera.

Thanks for your reply. I don't know exactly where the noise is coming from since it only happens when I am going over 30 or 40 mph. I think it sounds like it is coming from the engine compartment. Each time it has occurred it has been on a smooth asphalt surface. The last time it did it, I got it home, put it in park, raised to rpm's to what I think they were when it started making the noise and held it there for a couple of minutes. No noise. The lifters do sound a little clicky to me when I am under the hood. I beleive this car has hydraulics and should not be noisy. This weekend I am going to put some GM EOS to see if that will make the lifter noise go away and maybe also the popping noise I hear at cruising speed.

  5. We purchased a 1949 Roadmaster Sedanette about a month ago. We have had it out for drives a number of times with no problems. However, about two weeks ago we drove to a friends house about 10 miles away and on the way home, about a mile from our house at about 45 mph it started to make a popping noise, similar to popcorn popping. I slowed down and it went away. I thought it might have been a stuck thermostat causing the engine to over heat so I changed the thermostat. took it out and same thing. The car starts with no problem, idles without hesitation, runs well at speeds under 30 mph, but get up over 30 and the noise starts. The popping is erratic and doesn't seem to be in sync with rpms or anything like that. The only thing I have done to the car is fill it up with premuim and added some lead substitute. Any ideas what might be happening?

  6. Thanks for the responses guys. I found the correct ride height in the front of the shop manual - a little over 11 inches, so our car is approximately 4 inches too high all the way around. I will check all your suggestions and go from there. Please forward ant other suggestion that may come to mind. Thanks!

  7. We recently purchased a 49 Roadmaster Sedanette. The car appears to sit fairly high, especially in the front. The bottom of the front and rear bumpers are both 15 inches, but the car is noticably higher in the front than the back. I have looked at various sorces for this information, but have not found anything. Does anybody know the ride height of this vehicle? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
