  1. Thanks for the information and suggestion of trying a bit of gas to see what happens. The carb on this is sideways and about halfway down the side of the engine, rather than on the top. I'll have to figure out how to inject gas. Previously, I needed to get things going with starting fluid but that doesn't seem to be helping more than a bit. I can tell it's igniting but no sustain. I'm going to go through the propane system from back to front to make sure all the propane components are doing what they should as well as a double-check of the cooling lines to make sure the vaporizer isn't freezing up. Also, I'll be replacing the points with a pretronix electronic ignition as word is these give a little more spark energy which propane needs. I have to double check the wiring to the solenoids that control propane flow: Wiring is very old and brittle in places so there may be a hidden break. One more weird question that hopefully someone will answer: The shift lever is completely loose. That is, it will fall into whatever gear by vibration or gravity (all gears work fine). Are their normally springs somewhere in the transmission (base of the shifter?) that keep these generally in place until manually moved? Is it some other system? This tranny has a large bolt-on plate that the shift lever passes through....what can I expect if I pull the plate and am I likely to be able to give a simple fix to the looseness of the lever through this portal? Thanks again
  2. Ok, so it's not a car...but it is my new old baby to bring back to life. It's a 1958 yale forklift with a chrysler engine in it. The problem I am having is in making a positive identification of the engine. The block is marked "D5IA-4152". It's a 6 cylinder flathead. At some time in it's history, it was converted to proane from gas. Anybody able to verify what the engine is from the marks? I suspect it's an IND 30 but I hate to go chasing parts without better verification. Having problems suddenly with it. It started and ran a couple of months ago but I had to leave it sitting for a while. After a bear of a time I got it started again but foolishly killed the engine by popping the (very loose) clutch and can't get it going again. I suspect it's related to the propane system, not the engine. It wants badly to start and appears to be igniting what it can but won't sustain without the starter motor. Dead unless I wait 20-30 seconds and then it almost starts again. Then dead unless I wait another 30 seconds. Because of this I think the propane is not getting to the system except in a tiny amount. Anyway, thanks for the help...would appreciate any ideas or comments on this engine and any help on the propane end that people might have. I'm 80% green on engine stuff (forgot more than I remember) but would love to bring this baby back to life.
