  1. We have used Arkansas Brake and Clutch in Little Rock AR to reline older brakes for us with good results. They do a quick turnaround- and use the proper lining. Before using them - we had a 22 Packard relined with the modern linig- but the owner found the squeals objectionable- so we just sent his shoes off to be redone in Little Rock. They charged me less than $200.00 to reline the brakes on my '18 Buick. I don't have their contact # handy- as it is at the garage- but I'm sure you can find them.Lou Mandich; proprietor last Chane Garagein Unionville PA
  2. In my 1918 buick, we freed up -the carburetor control which rotates -clockwise to Choke- counterclockwise back to Hot then Cold. I can copy you the pages from my 1918 manual if you want. As to the fuel problem- the advice you received sofar looks good. Good luck. Lou
  3. I have successfully used zip strip-followed by a wash of denatured alcohol- then water- then a light sanding. Your varnish choice-and method- is good. Some people use broken plate glass (carefully) as scrapers. Good Luck. Lou
  4. I am trying to locate a good used ring and pinion set for a 1917 Buick D-45 (6 cylinder touring) owned by a friend of mine. I recently placed ads in the Bugle and in Hemming's. I'd like to know whether the 4 cylinder cars used the same rears- and also- how many years would interchange? I'm pretty sure the 1916 through 1919 6 cylinder rears will work. (When I brought my 1918 E45 home from New York State I purchased an extra 1919 rear axle- only to find it was hollow when I got it home and opened it up. It did have brake links which worked on my 1918- so it appears that it would have worked.) If any one has any ideas- or sources for parts- it would put another Buick back on the road. We had just fabricated a new leather cone clutch for the car- when - on the second test ride- the ring gear started losing teeth-the result- I think- of hard shifting with the previous bad clutch.
