  1. Hi Don: Looks like a nice find. I have a 29 commander that looks identical (same paint colors) except mine has a straight 8. Mine also has the coil recessed into the firewall. This is the one used on my car. The other one may be a replacement unit installed because the original one has a problem. The original coil can be checked out to see if it is ok. Bruce.
  2. Hi Everyone: I'm restoring a 29 Commander with a straight 8. Problem: I picked up my engine block and parts from a machine shop that had the stuff for over a year and hardly got any work done on it. The pistons and wrist pins were removed from the connecting rods and he (the machinist) didn't know which way the pistons fit on the rods. I have since located a competent machinist and the block, crank, head, and cam are finished. The problem still remains as to which way the pistons fit on the connecting rods. There is a small oil hole on the crank end of the rods that faces either toward the front or rear. This hole points upward at an angle at the base of the rod where the "I" beam portion begins. Would appreciate hearing from anyone who can help me out on this. Thanks, Bruce.
