Was Walther v. Selve the "Mysterious Messenger" ? Unlikely : In 1942 v. Selve was a permanent resident of Vaduz / Liechtenstein. I searched v. Selve's correspondence of the year 1942 to find whether he travelled to Germany, and found that he did so only in Sept./Oct. (too late to bring the message in July). He did meet with his German manager, Mr. Giessen, end of June in Switzerland. I knew Mr. Giessen and his family well, and he did not appear to be the type for such a mission. Also, after the war, when it would have been safe and even honorable to talk about this, Mr. Giessen never said anything to me during my many contacts with him. Walther Grot
