  1. First off I would like to thank those that helped on the last few problems with my 70 Cutlass I have posted questions about. I have not passed the emissions test yet but my blower is how working on high speed. I now have a new problem. I am on a road trip and separated from my shop manual by 1,000 miles. I do have some of my tools. My gas gauge is pointing at the hot light, approximately 3 o?clock. The night before it freaked out I filled the gas tank and parked it and the needle was at full. I checked the wires at the back of the gauge and they appear to be fine. I pulled the negative power cable and the needle did not move. I put about a hundred miles on the can and some of them were on rough roads and it did not unstuck anything. Please Help.
  2. That web site is no longer up. Can anyone get a new web addres?
  3. Now my Cutlass is falling the Emissions test. In Illinois the car takes a Bar-90 test which checks the HC and CO emissions at idle only with the car in park. We are allowed 900 ppm on HC. My HC was 2290 on my first test. I turned the idle mixture screws in until the car would not run then backed them out till it ran smoothly and gave them an extra ½ turn. The HC came down to 1700 but that is still a fail. Co passed so I am not worried about that. I have a 350 with a 4bb high compression and run only 93 octane gas. I add lead substitute every 1k. I rebuilt the carb earlier this year. The car is running much better and the MPG jumped from 12 to 16. I also replaced the spark plugs, checked the timing and dwell both were on the money. I did not replace the cap, rotor and wirers as they all looked good. All the parts have less than 10k on them but are over 5 years old (the car does not get out much). The breather and air filter were replaced last season and have less than 3K on them. I thought there was a tick with adjusting the timing but I can?t recall. HELP Brian
  4. The AC unit does get covered with ice. The air flow will stop comming out of ALL vents. this happens even if the AC is never on and the compressor not engaged so I think we can ruel out the evaprator. So as for the hold-in relay, would the clutch stay engaged iver if I put the climat controll switch to off? As of now it will keep the clutch in. I will check the wire off the relay this weekend, weather permitting. Thank you for the info and keep it comming. I have a new problem as of today. The ar faile the state emissions test. I am going to post that question latter.
  5. I have a few questions/problems. First The heat/ac fan will not work on the high speed setting. I replaced the high speed solenoid and it had no effect. I also tested the relay that is on the passenger side fender (it is an original mechanical type relay.) Second The AC compressor does not cycle like would expect it to. Once I turn it on the clutch stays engaged until I turn off the car. I can switch the climate control to heat, vent and even off but the compressor stays engaged. Third The heat/ac system seems to loose vacuum after about 90 minuets of operation. The fan is still on but nothing is coming out of any of the vents. There is no vacuum leak I can detect. Moving the switch on the dash does not have any effect. The only way to get it working is to turn the car off for a few minuets. It works fine for 90 minuets? And finally, I finally found a TCS for the car (1970 Olds Cutlass with the high compression 350 engine, 3-speed auto). http://forums.aaca.org/showflat.php?Cat=...e=1#Post378051. The system is not working. The wiring diagram in my shop manual is hard to read. It looks like I should have 12V at the solenoid. I don?t and I am having trouble tracing where the wire comes from.
  6. Holy cow that is a lot of money. I think I will look for a 12 volt 3-way solenoid and build one myself if that is what they go for.
  7. I am looking for a T.C.S. (Transmission Controlled Spark) solenoid. It is not the Thermostat vacuum switch and not the switch mounted on the transmission. It is located just to the passenger side of the carburetor. On the web site listed I have a picture of the damaged on mounted on my car. I have looked in the usual parts places and they either do not have it or it is not the correct part. I am planning on visiting junk yards today but would prefer a new part. Thanks, Brian TSC solenoid
  8. Yes it is. It just to the passengers side of the front of the carb. Thank you Brian No1Ambroz@aol.com
  9. I am working on a 70 Cutlass coverable. It has a 350 high performance engine with a 4bbl Rochester carb. I need the routing for the vacuum lines. There are two that are caped off. One off the back of the carb (one line off the back goes to the manifold and the other is caped). The other is on the front of the intake. There is a vacuum switch mounted on the intake manifold with three vacuum nipples and one of them is caped. Brian
