That 57 rust bucket site is excellent. The time it took to document the process is as good as the actual resto. Dion

Thanks Brad. I do believe I will just have the gentleman who worked on the car do just as you say. It is a small piece in the trunk. It must have had water leaking into the area from the tail light. We didn't find it at first. Everything "looked" solid in the trunk. No hints of rust. I discovered it when I went to remove some of this "tar like" stuff the previous owner must have used as a seam sealer? I was preping the area for a new carpet. When I was scraping, a chunk came out revealing the hole. It is not as big an area as I first thought. I will head all suggestions. Take out a decent surrounding area and weld in a new piece of steel. Thanks guys. I am really enjoying this site. It is certainly different than the 914 site. Cheers all,Dion

Thank you " heidigirl". I kind of knew that would be the answer. I appreciate the feedback. I recently saw this product advertised and wondered if any body had experience with it. Thanks

    metal repair

Hello, I'm new here. I have a 1973 Porsche 914. I recently had some rust issues dealt with and also a complete bare metal repaint in original colour. However while reinstalling the rear tail lights I found a "hole" in the trunk. It is along the edge of the car were a vertical surface meets the trunk floor. Right above the exhaust. It is approx 5" x 1/2" in dimension. It was buried in this thick tar-like stuff, and undercoating from the bottom. Finally the question. Can "Lab Metal" product fix this? or should it be cut out and welded?Any info appreciated. Thanks in advance. Cheers,Dion
