  1. I've asked this question on a another list and received the following response from a pal: "You jogged my memory on the fender signals, I had a 68 Rivera....new one, and it had them so the were not an add on.".. meaning they probably weren't an aftermarket add-on on the '69 I saw on Ebay the other day that had signal indicators. I've written my friend again to ask if it was a single lamp signal or the fiber optic "trio" that we remember from the 70s. I'm betting it was a single lamp, like Mopars had. Anyone know for sure? Thanks: Patrick Moore Covington, LA
  2. Dear Buick Friends: I was making my regular cruise through Ebay and saw a '69 Electra convertible very similar to mine, but this one has fender-top signal indicators, ala Mopar. (see it at Ebay No. 4650375600.) Excuse my ignorance if this is an easy question, but did Buick offer this option? I've had two old Mopars and a mid-70s Caddy that had them, but I wouldn't have thought they were offered with the '69 Buick. The number of odd little options that can pop up on these cars never ceases to impress me. I wouldn't usually alter a factory intact car, but man if these were a Buick option, I want em! (I hope you could get them and the cornering lights, which my car has). I love the flash on the hood when you drive the car at night. Also, my car is a convertible and being slightly deaf, I can't always hear the flash switch after a turn. I caught myself the other day riding down the road with the signal on long after completing a turn. I don't like that! Hood-top flash indicators would prevent me from missing a lingering signal. I've tried to embed a photo of "Carlotta" sporting her brand-new paint job, a return to the factory original Verde Green Poly (and not paid for with FEMA money, I promise). Ignore the oil spot on the driveway, by the way. That's not mine! <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> Patrick Moore Covington, Louisiana
  3. Dear BCA: The top on my '69 Electra appears to be the original. It's a very low mileage car that I bought last year. I've got to replace the top, and have wondered about a few things: First and foremost: What should I expect to pay for the top to be replaced? I'm hoping to locate a vendor that will repaint the top frame while they're doing to top, and wonder if all top shops offer that service normally? (I live in rural Louisiana, however, and may have some trouble with getting any sort of standard service.) I see local upholstry shops (2) advertising their services in replacing tops. I'm a little wary. Anything in particular I should watch out for? The liner for the top well is rotted. Does the replacement top come with a new liner or is this something I should expect to pay extra for? Does the VIN reveal the original top color, or were top colors standardized, i.e. were they matched only to certain colors? My car color is Poly Green Verde (fresh repaint. It looks great!) and the top is black. I'm considering changing the top color, but I don't want to put an "incorrect" top that either violates the VIN indication, should there be one, or that Buick would never had matched to the color/model. Maybe Buick only used black in those years. Any advice would be grealy appreciated. Thanks Patrick E. Moore BCA 41652
  4. Thanks! It has to be Verde Green, it's darker than the other green for that year. It's a relief to get it right.
  5. The convertible top on my '69 Electra has started to "stall" while closing, meaning it will open and collapse into the rear with no problem, but when it's time to put the top back up it goes up about two feet and stops. I end up having to get one of my kids to press the top button while I "help" the top close. It worked great until a few weeks ago. I've had the car since early August '05, and before that it was used very sporadically for years and years. I figured it needed more hydraulic fluid and found the pump, but I can't easily see the writing on the motor housing telling what kind of fluid I'm supposed to put it and, more importantly, where and how I fill it. Before I started tinkering, I thought I'd ask if someone could give me some information on this? I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks! Patrick in Louisiana pnkmoore@bellsouth.net BCA No. 41652
  6. I dropped my '69 Electra off today to be painted. The guy that paints for me does all of his work in a barn at the back of his place. He's not exactly modern and I wouldn't assume he has internet, etc. He's worried that his paint supplier wouldn't have the paint code for my green Buick because it's pre-1970. As it happens, the car is now white and I'm having it returned to it's original color, a deep forest green. I don't know the name of it. QUESTION: How do I get the paint code? He asked if I could confirm it. Thanks: Patrick in Louisiana. pnkmoore@bellsouth.net BCA No. 41652
  7. Anybody have any suggestions where I might find a tonneau cover for my '69 Electra Covertible? Color: Black. Mine is original and while it looks pretty good, I'm having the car painted and the old tonneau will show poorly against new paint. Thanks Patrick Moore pnkmoore@bellsouth.net BCA No. 41652
