  1. I have a 1956 Olds 88 with a 30amp generator. I heard there might be a conversion kit to make it a modern alternator with the original outsides. I was looking at putting in a big stereo put I need the power first. Any ideas?
  2. Thanks for the advice. Im going to buy a new battery for now until im done restoring (2 years to go)
  3. Im need a new battery for my olds and want to find something that looks original. Does anyone know of a replicata or one that is close enough to one?
  4. Yeah I got my decals from them and a TON of other stuff. I love th fact I can get the correct radiator hose clamps. Fast shipping too!
  5. Thanks for the info. Im going to go with .06. I dont plan on beating on the engine so Im not worried about cooling. I dont think .04 would do it. The bore was done poorly before and there are some deep scratches too.
  6. Blah. I just dismanteled my engine for a rebuild and found it went through a bad rebuild before. It's 30 over and the cylnders are round! I guess Im going to 60 over. Anyone have any ideas? I was thinking if Im going this far, why not stoke it! Anyone know of a stroke kit for these?
  7. W00t! Just dismantled my 56 88 324 and it has the #10 stamps. I cant believe how good everything looks, no brass showing on any bearings, solid crank and floating pistons. These are nice engines. I cant wait until it comes back from being acid washed.
  8. I want to put on radial white walls when Im not "showing" the car. For safety really. There is a ton of room to play with in the wheel wells and I was thinking of getting a wheel that is 2" wider (inside offset). Anyone know where I can get a set of these?
  9. According ot the fusick guys 57 and 58 were all gold.
  10. Does that mean it was a single exhaust system?
  11. Im digging deep into my car and have The passenger side (right) exhaust manifold has 2 outlets, one went to a muffler and the other one was blocked with a homemade metal seal which closed off the outlet. It is like a T with the bottom of the T coming from engine and the 2 sides are exhaust outlets. Anyone know what went on the other side of the T? On Fusick I saw a great looking dual exhaust bumper ornament. Were these stock with the car? Is there anyway I can tell if these were once on my car? Does anyone have any 56 pictures with these? There is a picture of a 56 on this site but the deflectors are from 55. Thanks again for everyones great help!
  12. I just spent $$$ for a oil bath filter for my car. It's much cooler looking AND it's original. I dont know if one is better functionaly from the other though.
  13. OK Back to parts. Im lookin for a fan clutch and fan shroud. I cant find it at the three dealers listed above. Any ideas?
  14. Does anyone know where I can get replacement glass. The previous owner hand etched swirls into the glass. Its a 56 88 holiday coupe. Im also looking to give my 324 a performance boost. Im going to rebuild the engine and want to add some power. Any ideas?
  15. Thanks for all the input. I agree on the bigblock. Its tempting but I do like to keep things somewhat stock. My first concern is always safty so the car will be getting 4 wheel disc breaks, a steering tuneup and radial white walls. The 324 with a rebuild will give me enough power to cruise with and if I want to feel the back of my seats when I hit the gas Ill pull out my 69 MACH I. It would be tempting to put a supercharger on it. I don't know if something exists though. My MACH doesnt have factory valve covers, radiator or intake. Everything else down to the screws is correct and I do get the odd ball remarks that it is ashame that I hacked the car up! Blah to them I say.
  16. I was think of dropping in a 545 big block with a chevy tranny that my buddy had in his nova. Any reason not to? I would keep the original parts in case I want to go back to stock and every 4000lbs car could use the extar 700 horespower.
  17. Im buying my first olds! It's a 1956 88 sedan. I come from a late 60s mustang background so Im not new to the hobby. Im always concerned about safety and have some questions. Are there any 4 wheel disk brake kits out there? Any hints to tighten up the ride (suspension, steering)? Where can I get new tires? The ones on it now are really old. I need some dash parts, any links on where to get them? Anybody have a any tips on car covers. My garage isnt finished being built so I will have to keep it outside for a few months. Thanks in advance.
