  1. That is awesome advice. It sounds like it would do me good to replace the gear anyway, whether it skipped or not. The stupid plastic coated teeth are crap anyway. Thank you for all the help. Ill try that.
  2. Well, I can't tell ya if the plastic coated gear was ever replaced or not. I pulled the thing off of an indian reservation. When I had the cap off, I bumped the key and the rotor spun fine. That leads me to believe it hasn't jumped time and the teeth are fine. We do have a place on base to work on it, called the Auto Hobby Shop. Problem is, since they charge by the hour for the stalls, and I don't know what is wrong with it, itll probably be a waste of money. I can just as easily work on it in front of my house. I am so frustrated by this, I am ready to start replacing whole parts instead of trying to fix the problem. Maybe Ill start with a new distributor, then maybe a new timing set, then a new carb. All things it needs or could use, but now were heading into credit card land, somewhere I dont particularly want to be. When I try to crank it, all I hear is the starter motor. It sat with snow on it for about 3 weeks, but it's been 45-50 degrees here so it should be thawed enough by now. Can't even get the thing to turn over anymore. I was condsidering trying some starting fluid, but I don't want to blow a head. So frustrating. Thank ya'll for the help.
  3. Howdy. I am a young military member whose daily driver is this car. Problem is, I drove it to work and it quit on me. Can't get it to start again. It has spark, it has gas. Timing didn't jump, vaccuum isn't retarded, rotor is good. I replaced the ignition control module, but still nothing. It tries like hell to start, but it won't catch. After about 10-15 minutes of trying to start it, it will turn over and start to putter, but when I release the key it dies. This is real frustrating as I don;t have anything else to drive or the money to have it towed to a garage. Here's the particulars. The engine is a 77 cutlass 350, not a rocket. Carb is a quadra-puke The car only has 102k original, please help! Thanks. You can also email me at overwatch37@aol.com. Thanks again.
  4. I have a 350 rocket block, pistons and crank still in it, the heads, 2 barrel manifold and carb that came with it. Engine is mostly complete. Missing few things like water pump, etc. Great shape, but I don't know how much to ask for it. Anybody?
