Well, I can't tell ya if the plastic coated gear was ever replaced or not. I pulled the thing off of an indian reservation. When I had the cap off, I bumped the key and the rotor spun fine. That leads me to believe it hasn't jumped time and the teeth are fine. We do have a place on base to work on it, called the Auto Hobby Shop. Problem is, since they charge by the hour for the stalls, and I don't know what is wrong with it, itll probably be a waste of money. I can just as easily work on it in front of my house. I am so frustrated by this, I am ready to start replacing whole parts instead of trying to fix the problem. Maybe Ill start with a new distributor, then maybe a new timing set, then a new carb. All things it needs or could use, but now were heading into credit card land, somewhere I dont particularly want to be. When I try to crank it, all I hear is the starter motor. It sat with snow on it for about 3 weeks, but it's been 45-50 degrees here so it should be thawed enough by now. Can't even get the thing to turn over anymore. I was condsidering trying some starting fluid, but I don't want to blow a head. So frustrating. Thank ya'll for the help.
