  1. Thanks for the info. I made the decision in the meantime to rebuild the original. I am ordering the kit next week!
  2. 55 Buick Special 4 door, 264 engine. Anyone have good luck with any particular electric fuel pump, I think this is the last thing between me and a running classic piece of tin! Rather than shooting off the hip, I thought I would see what others have had success with.
  3. Thanks, I will give it a shot after I have my transmission cooler put back together to avoid any more "accidental" messes...
  4. Thanks a ton. That helps out alot. The plate is busted, so I could not tell if it was 2 hole or 3 hole and under the car where it was "moved" I could not find anything that looked like it lined up. I will press on this evening!
  5. 55 Buick Special 264 with 2 barrel Stromburg... Gas leaking out at the intake, I have removed it 3 times and tightened it down. New gasket between the carb and the intake. Leaked the same way with the old gasket in place also. Leaks at the rear side right onto the tank. Appears the floats are not getting stuck (but I am not an expert and they could be) Any ideas?
  6. Great. You guys have hit the part on the head. But when you say it rests on top of the transmission held in place by the lines makes sense, since I have found a few things removed and moved around. There looks to be a bracket coming off of the cooler, how is this positioned. I am operating without a manual for the time being and trying to learn this as I go...
  7. There is a fluid junction for the Power Steering on my 55 Buick special located under the car around the rear side of the tranny. The plate connecting is busted and I cannot determine where the plate mounted from. Can anyone help out by letting me know where it mounts or snapping a quick pic of theirs and posting it so I have some guidance. I see a couple of spots that it could mount, but cannot determine the correct location. Thanks, Nuke
  8. I was looking at that kit, but wasn't sure how good they are. I also saw that DiscBrakeMike had a similar kit. Thanks for the info, I always like knowing that others have or are using some of these available kits. Thanks.
  9. I am looking for some tips to doing a disc brake conversion. I have a 55 & 54 4door specials. Both the brakes are in various states of disarray. I thought this would be a good time in looking to convert them to disc. I tried looking through the archive, but it was too varied and long to find what I was looking for. I could be wrong, but I believe the 54 & 55 have the same brake system. Any gotchas to look for? Good donor brake systems? Any good guides on how to do this out there? Thanks, Nuke
  10. Awesome, thanks so much for this info! I will give it a shot today!
  11. http://www.classicfabrication.com/ I haven't used anything from these guys before, but it looks like they could be an option/answer Good Luck!
  12. This is the first old car I have ever owned and pulled it out of backyard. Can anyone tell me the feel of the ignition key when you go to start it. I can feel the 3 positions that the key moves. But I am used to having a spring load on the ignition to engage the starter. I don't have any spring in my ignition. Is this normal or a sign of a problem? Thanks for any help!
  13. I am looking for a pedal for my 55 special, in addition to the rod that goes through the firewall. Let me know if you have something that might fit the bill... You can contact me directly @ tnuke@excite.com Thanks.
  14. Thanks for all the info. I guess I will see after I get my key made next week!
  15. I am new to the board and just picked up my first restoration project. I found what I think to be the right project for me. A 55 Special 4 door sedan (Texas car, now relocated to Illinois)... Unfortunately no keys. I was curious if anyone knew exactly how many different keys came with the car and what they opened. I have currently pulled the key cylinder out of the passenger door and wanted to see if I should pull any others prior to my trip to the locksmith to make sure to have a full set. Thanks!
