  1. Investigations about the Buick... We lead investigations to reconstruct the story of this limousine. The car was the property of Miss Mollie D. Phillips from 1954, she was an Olympic skater, first woman to carry the british flag during the 1932 Lake Placid Games overture. She lived in the Cilyblaidd manor, near to Llanybydder (Wales). She died in '94, therefore it will be difficult to ask her further informations about the car Nevertheless, we know that the car remained in the wales for a long time: the second owner was the boss of a pub named "Albion Arms" in Dyfed. We don't have any information about the first 17 years of the Buick (from 1937 to 1954), but i found a few clues: it seems that three holes at the left of the dash have been hidden with metallic badges. That's why i'm allowed to think that this car bornt as a left hand drive before being retrofitted to a RHD when imported to the UK. Does anybody know about this kind of retrofit? I will post pictures soon...
  2. Waow, is it a kind of purple color ? I really enjoy it I know from the beginning that it's a '37, but i prefered kept this kind of clue for myself in order to keep this find away from faster european buyers, it sometimes happens: you find THE pearl, and somebody runs faster than you ! Now, she's mine This car is a 90L Limited, built in Oshawa, and known to be driven in Great Britain since 1954. I don't know its history before this year, I guess it was a diplomatic or military vehicle (without licence tax card). It also could have been imported in '54 and modified to a right hand drive, but there are a few clues that shows it has always been a right hand drive (the dash board has not any refilled hole). Thanks to a member of this forum, I asked myself about restoring it as a left hand drive, that doesn't seem to be impossible, does anybody know about such a transformation ? The driver's seat and upholstery are made of leather whereas the passengers can get a grey velvet bath behind the partition glass... The dashboard and the glass frames are painted black, i think the wood-like paint is much more pretty than this sad color. I just have one regret: the roof of my limousine is straighter than a roadmaster, which is then more lovely in my opinion.
  3. Thank you Your signature shows that you're the proud owner of a '51 Buick, which is known to be fitted with a straight 8 (248 or 320 ? I don't remember), isn't it ? Could you talk about mileage ? (whisky's going cheaper than gasoline in France) Salut !
  4. Thank you for all these replies. The car will probably be delivered on wednesday, I'll send you pictures of it as soon as possible. Does anybody know if the small bullet-shaped lenses (for the lights on the top of the front fenders) are easy to find ?
  5. Thank you guys for your kind answers. The car is already in France and comes from UK, therefore it's a right hand drive. Here is the only picture i got of it: You can see that it doesn't deal with a rusty trash can, this car does actually need a little make up, although i will give it a deep restoration to feel comfortable in my mind and make it fully reliable. I think the seller will probably pay attention to a ?9,000 ($11,000) cash offer... Thank you very much for your answers and any further reply ! Salut !
  6. Waowww, it might be difficult to convince him ! I was thinking about something like $10,000 or $11,000... He's a kind of rough business man, i guess i won't be able to ask him a $6,000 refund Well, let's assume that your precious advice will help me to be more persuasive for a lower price... Merci beaucoup !
  7. Hi there ! Here comes a french newbie in this forum: 26 yo and US classic cars enthusiast, I own a 69' Mercury Monterey Station-wagon, and a 93' Buick Park Avenue as daily-driver. I found a few days ago the very car of my dreams, as a 38' Buick 90L ! I can't stop loving its looooong wheelbase and its loooooong 320 ci straight 8 and its wonderful body (yes, i am just talking about a car ) As a good ol'american iron made car, there are just a few rust stains (rear door, and trunk door) that need sheet metal working. Its motor is known to run, but i did not drive it myself, because of the loss of the electric starter. The upholstery also needs to be restored. In fact, i will offer this car a full frame-off restoration... What's the best price i could pay for such a car ? The seller asks $12,000 (?9,900) for it, do you think he's a reasonable guy ? For information, prices are about the same on both sides of the atlantic ocean... Thank very much for your help !!!
