  1. thanks for the advice... i really appreciate it.. i guess i figured that it wasn't the "hot deal" i was hoping it would be.. but then i bought it with restoring in mind... i just really like the body style.. i'll try your mcdonalds idea.. the ideal demographic is way on the other side of the city, so i'll head out there.. as far as specs: mileage is dubious as the odometer rolls at 5 digits and the previous owners gave me a very different number than the one on the odometer... and the engine was replaced in '94 or so- so perhaps it was reset then? the interior is fantastic except for the steering wheel (age/temp cracks) and i had to pull the carpet off the driver's side door to remove the panel.. exterior is dent free and mostly rust free.. even the rubber bits look new, the vinyl is pulling in some places.. frame is straight, clean title, etc.. apart from that, it's got new wheels/tires, rear shocks/springs, new starter/battery/plugs/etc... newer engine.. power everything, tilt, cruise... yadda yadda yadda... runs great.. cant think of anything else.. i think i mentioned earlier.. NADA lists 1600(sm), 3200(m), 5400(lg with fries).. what do you think? oh- and i'm near portland, oregon.. thanks, again..
  2. maybe someone can clue me into something... i've got a 1979 riviera... i like it, i think it looks good.. and it drives well.. but i've been trying to sell it for over a year now.. and nobody wants it.. i've gotten maaaybe three people to show even the slightest amount of interest in it (not including cashier's check scams)... i'm asking half of the NADA "average" price, listed on several websites (including this forum) and have had signs on it for a long while.. what am i doing wrong? is it just that bad of a car that no one will ever want it? please reply..
  3. oops.. sorry about that.. $1500 obo... or trade..
  4. ok, i hope nobody was too turned off by the $10,000- cause i <span style="font-style: italic">was</span> kidding after all.. maybe nobody lives in oregon? is that the cause for this unholy silence surrounding my fs ad?
  5. located near portland, OR great condition.. relatively.. runs great, interior is nice.. alright- cosmetically, everything could use a little spit shine and elbow grease- but it's straight and has a clear title.. no dents (that i've found in the last year or so)... as for the price- honestly dont know.. lets pretend it's something ridiculous like $10,000 and then you can offer something much more reasonable.. and i'll say no, and you'll say yes, and i'll say fine! stupid jerk.. and we'll have ourselves a deal.. ok? also looking for trade.. something with better gas mileage, perhaps? just remember- every day that you dont buy this classic beauty brings a plasma cutter and welding torch that much closer...
  6. hmm.. so- an octane booster? sorry- i dont know much about fuel and all that..
  7. hmm.. well my understanding is that oregon is one of the last states requiring ethanol during the winter.. so is there anything i can do? (apart from driving to washington to fill up...)
  8. what can i do to counter the effect of ethanol on my MPG? i went from 15 to 11 mpg in one month thanks to ethanol!
  9. i was driving my dad's '74 mercedes 450slc (it got better mileage than my 69 galaxie xl, so i used to drive it to work) and found myself next to the most beautiful, cherry red, 1968-ish galaxie convertible- something i hadn't seen before and haven't seen since- and in the course of shouting something stupid along the lines of "i've got a galaxie, too!" drifted within an inch of him- swerved, over-corrected, almost hit another car on my other side, and didn't realize til it was ALMOST too late that the light was red and came very close to hitting the car in front of me.. luckily i didn't.. and the galaxie drove off into the sunset.. never to be seen again ended up wrapping the mercedes around a pine tree in an unrelated event.. (<span style="font-style: italic">you</span> try 90mph in reverse!)
  10. hmm.. i haven't yet seen the mustang fastback.. i will admit, however, to having been inspired (even if only a little) by the.. what is it.. dodge magnum? i do agree- to an extent- with the "anti-custom" argument.. it is a great car- in decent condition.. and though it's hardly an endangered species- suffice to say, i see where you're coming from.. and i did have it up for sale for.. almost 18 months ($1200 OBO) but to no avail.. economy isn't strong enough for such a gas guzzler.. in any case- although i respect the restoration of classic cars- especially in this new age of plastic, styrofoam and H2's- i also hold that a great lot of joy can be found in making something "one's own" through modification..
  11. i think- considering that it's already a two-door, it wouldn't be any more difficult to get in or out than it is now.. as for the trunk.. you're right.. it'd be miniscule.. maybe big enough for a donut and a couple quarts of oil.. but then- i'm not actually planning on hauling people to the airport in it.. anyone think of anything i should be looking out for- structurally?
  12. i'd like to keep with the original curvature of the car (buicks have great curves, dont they?) so using the existing rear windshield would be difficult without recessing the trunk lid.. as for the port holes.. you're right- the "proposed" pic is kind of ugly.. i was thinking more along the lines of only one, slightly elongated porthole.. as for legality.. good question.. ha.. i haven't the slightest.. but judging from some of the cars around here (oregon), i dont think i'll get too much hassle so long as the tags are current..
  13. hi everyone, it's nice to finally find a good buick forum.. that being said- tell me what you think of this idea: i've got a 1979 riviera- in very decent condition.. was lowered by previous owners- had to replace.. well.. everything.. (hint: torching springs and disabling pneumies is a bad way to lower a car) in any case- i was digging through the trunk one day and it occured to me that with the proper preperations it would be incredibly easy to extend the roof back over the trunk.. (i will attempt to upload a pic of what it could look like).. once that's done- the back bench could be modified to fit between the wheel wells.. a little upholstering and presto-limmo! any thoughts? suggestions?
