  1. I don't know what kind of engine you are wanting to build for it, but Mondello has a real good book on rebuilding 350, 455 and 403. www.mondellotwister.com I've never rebuilt a motor before, but have found his book is making it easier.
  2. Picked up a bunch of Olds stuff this weekend. Have 2 sets of G heads. Marked as follows: capital G about an inch tall capital A below it about a 1/4 of an inch tall, then GFO, 409, 100, 168 I think (the last part is hard to read) Heads appear to be in great shape, no cracks. Where these made in Jan. '68? What can you tell me about them? I'm going to sell them and need to know more info and idea on price. thanks gotmy442olds@yahoo.com Robert, OCA member
  3. Blownolds and 66400, sorry. I had heard you could bore a 425 out and make a 442 motor. I have picked up a complete 425 less carb and thought it would make a winter project, I have the Olds bug and want to get another car. If I understand you 66400 you have to bore out a 400 and put the 425 pistons in it to get make a "442" motor? I'd hate to bore a 400 motor, the only ones I have found around here are cracked and to far gone even for parts. I've only posted here Blownolds, but will look into realolds.com thanks
  4. say anything about it. Is it safe to do and if so, where would you get the special pistons I'm told you need. What should and shouldn't be done when build this motor. Thanks You can email me at gotmy442olds(removethis)@yahoo.com
  5. How can I tell if the block they are telling me is a 455 Olds really is a 455 Olds? On Pontiacs its cast into the block 4 5 5. Is it the same for Olds? Where would I find the numbers on the block? Also, how would I know if it is a W-30 motor? What is the bore on a 455? Sorry for all the Q's. I found two guys with 455 motors and they are asking $200 for the short block and $300 w/heads. The W-30 motor didn't have a price, come look at it and make offer he said. What should I Look for? Prince seems good. Thanks
  6. My buddy has built lots of Chevy and Pontiac motors, but no Olds. I would like to have a book for him to read about the dos and don'ts of Olds motor building. Any good sources? Send me and eamil gotmy442olds@yahoo.com
  7. Mostly it will be around town on nice weekends and maybe to Tulsa or Springfield for cars shows. No cross country trips.
  8. I'm a new member to OCA. My regular insurance man can give me coverage on my '67 Olds, but its limited milage. If I get antique tags I save a little also. In my state we can not customize these tags and I don't like how they look. If I want unlimited milage insurance goes way up. We also don't have anyone local that can give a "value" to our special cars, which is also a requirement. Do any of you use Grundy or Hagerty? Happy with them? Looked at each of there web sites, but doesn't tell about needing apprasial.
  9. There are no other 442s in my area and I knew I wanted an Olds car, not an Olds with a Chevy engine. What they all wanted to do. Thanks
  10. Is there any benefit to going with a 455 over a 400. I was told the 400 had a better low end, but the 455 had a better top end. It seems I can order a 455 just about anywhere, but have not found anyone local that can get a 400. Any advice is welcome. I'm not a motor person. Pros/cons anything I should stay away from doing to my engine. I'm getting alot of mixed messages from local guys that I am finding is not very good. One guy told me my car could not have come from the factory Red as the 442 was not offered in Red that year. (That is the kind of people I am dealing with here). I am a new joiner of OCA and the nearest club is 4 hours away. thanks
  11. Just got a '67 Olds Cutlass Supreme 442. Car is an original 442, but engine is not original. It has a '78 403 in it. My trans is a 400 and the rear end is a 10 bolt. Replacing with 12 bolt. I want to put a 400 or a 455 motor in it. I know the 455 is a tight fit & not offered till '70. Car will be for show, won't be drag racing, but want to put the fear of Olds into the late model Chevy and 5.0's running around town. I know there is good and bad with both engines. I have a friend that can build me what I want, but is not an "Olds" person. He is into Chevells. This being my first and only muscle car I want to do it right. Been told 455 needs bigger oil pan to keep from locking up the engine as it pulls all the oil to the top. Told the 400 can not be boared out as the walls are to thin. Either way I have to be carefull about overheating the engine. I know nothing about cars. I like the look of the '67 read up on them, to make sure I was buying a real 442. How to read the codes, numbers and so on. But when it comes to power and best over all engine I don't know. The rear end I have right now has 3.90 gears and hits a wall at 80 mph. The 12 bolt will probably have 3.26. Any and all suggestion are welcome. My friend will understand even if I don't. I want power, but I also want to be able to go on cruses. Like the Power Tour. thaks for helping this newbie out.
