"I am going to be looking at a '54 Desoto 4-dr with a firedome v-8 later today. What in particular should I keep an eye out for with this car? He claims it is solid and rust free and in good running condition except that it isn't charging the battery. Has a new generator he says all it needs is a voltage regulator. Does that sound reasonable? Also it has an 8-volt battery in it. He claims that this will give it better cranking power w/o damaging the 6-volt system. Is this real or am I running the risk of electircal problems down the line? Any help would be greatly apprecitated. I love the look of the desotos, but want to ensure I get one in good shape so I can enjoy it rather than end up hating it." -P
