  1. Hi,

Did you ever find the headlight bezel you were looking for?  The reason I ask is because I need one too.   I just bought a Golden Spirit, and it is missing the bezel, the lens, and the ornamental piece at the center of the lens.  I know someone who could probably fabricate one, but I would rather buy an original.   If you know of anyone who has parts, please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Kevin

  2. Hi all,

I recently saw the most amazing Buick clock I've ever seen....

It was at a Museum in Boston; the Larz Anderson Collection.  (An amazing collection if I've ever seen one, especially if you like the early stuff...)

Anyway, they had a temporary display of motorcycles, which I must admit I don't know much about, but behind them was this extremely ornate clock with fine carvings of old cars.  The closer I looked, the more detail I could see.  It is quite a piece...

So, although I seldom post here, I really felt this would be something the Buick guys would like.  (I've been a Buick guy my entire life, even though I'm not a BCA member.)

    Here are some photos.

    Enjoy!

  3. I have no idea how many of you have had the opportunity to visit this wonderful museum in Dayton, but I went there recently a couple of times, and enjoyed it immensely.... What a wonderful place.

It's an old Packard dealership, and they have about 45 or so cars on display, but that's not the only reason to love this place. They also have the Robert Turnquist library, artwork, artifacts (some in concrete), and many other things that any Packard lover will be able to appreciate. And, they have some really wonderful docents working there on weekends. Say hi to Al, Dick, and Jim if you get the chance for a visit. You will NOT be disappointed.

I've posted a number of photos here, although I'll readily admit my photos don't always turn out as good as I'd hoped:

  4. I like this one a lot more than the Eldorado Brougham he did.... Have you seen that one? (I absolutely prefer those stock...) The Riviera seems like less of an offense, just because they made a bunch of them. This is a neat car, in my eyes. I'm sure there are others out there who would not agree.

I actually love Darryl Starbird's stuff, and this Riviera looks good all around, although I must admit your choice of forums isn't likely to win you much praise, or many new friends. You might want to start looking at the HAMB (it's geared toward Hot Rods/Customs)... I love that forum, but then again, I have always loved the Buicks, Cadillacs, Imperials, finned cars, and Big Classics, along with the Old School Customs.

Darryl is a National Treasure, as is Barris... I saw George last weekend at the GNRS. He was just sitting there on a bench talking to fans, and anyone else who recognized him. What a guy!

  5. I love the fact they used the Buick Wheels. I was wondering about the significance of the Gibson Les Paul? I couldn't figure out why they wouldn't have used a Gibson Riviera Guitar!?!??! But, now that I know the name of the car, it makes perfect sense!

    Kaber

Yes, as for the guitar, by its appearance, I'm pretty sure this was a very early Les Paul. It had discolorations around the binding that you would only see on early models. The guitar itself was really just awesome, but I doubt there were all that many guys looking at the guitar. I love vintage guitars, and this one was spectacular. But, even having said that, it seemed almost a little out of place sitting there in front of this car. I only say that because not everyone is into old guitars.... I'm guessing it was sort of like his inspiration for the color on the Buick. That would make sense...

I did a little research to see if I could find other references to the Les Paul, and I did find an old Custom Rodder article from about 2006 on this car. Interestingly, it looks like the car I saw in Pomona is in its second iteration.... The original build didn't go quite as far, as you'll notice in the engine photos. I don't know if the car is in the hands of a new owner who took it to the next level, or if this is just the same owner sinking more $$$ into it. Either way, it's very nice. I wish I could have looked underneath to see if the George Barris comment about this being something about "The Finest Riviera", was actually true. I'm guessing it is, otherwise he wouldn't be calling out all the details for the judges in the paperwork next to the car. You'll also notice he reverted back to stock wheels, at some point since the original 2006 build...

Go here for the 2006 build:

  6. ...... You gotta love the fact that there were TWO high profile early Rivs at this great show! Thanks for posting! Kaber

Well, it was actually better than that. There may have been only two high profile Rivs there, but there were plenty of other less notable Rivieras on display, and they were all wonderful, as you'll see in these other photos. It was really nice to see these Buicks getting the respect they deserve. This seemed to be a big year at the GNRS for Rivieras. Enjoy!

  7. How much credit did the builder give to the original GM designers for the concept?

Well, they actually did specifically call out Bill Mitchell in the "Special Thanks" section of their display.... In fact, they did that quite prominently as the final name, as the one we would most likely notice.

That has to count for something. I can respect that. The other names are most likely lost to history.

  8. It looks to me they used a 68-69 Ford Torino or Mercury Montego fast back roof on the car.

Yes, after looking at some Torino photos, I think you may be right. It certainly has a big back window, which Ford was known for.

I did a little more research, and I found the builder's facebook page.

Here are some BEFORE and AFTER photos of the car:

  9. Hi all,

I was a little reluctant to post this, but I think there may be at least a few of you who haven't seen this... I attended the Grand National Roadster Show this weekend, and was pleasantly surprised by this wild custom/concept recreation that showed up. I actually liked the presentation as much as the car itself.

I thought some of you might enjoy seeing these photos....

    Enjoy!

  10. Hi all, I came across this interesting photo today while looking through a friend's personal collection of rare photos. He has a ton of old police photos and insurance company wrecks, and by golly I flipped the page in his binder only to find this magnificent J with a huge light pole in the seat. There's actually a caption that says "Woman driver fell asleep at the wheel"...But, that's all it says!... Has anyone ever heard of this car, or does anyone recognize it? I'm assuming this photo has never been seen before... Then again, who knows, maybe another copy is out there floating around, but either way I felt it was important to share this photo of a photo with you just to see what is known about this car, or the story behind it.... Personally, I doubt this has ever been published before.... Enjoy! Kevin post-34551-143141833373_thumb.jpg

  11. Kevin Huff said that someone bought the '52 car a few years ago and it went to Arizona. Was very rough and perhaps the new owner decided not to restore because it later went on eBay. Kevin has no idea what happened to it but hopes it was restored. I do to.

I went back and checked my old emails, and it looks like it was sold around May, 2007 to Michael Yesensky, of Phoenix.

I also may have some photos from the later eBay auction. I will try to do some digging and if I find them, I'll be sure to post them.

    HTH,

    Kevin

  12. Me

I would like to build and airport limo, 6 or 8 door from one of my 42 part cars. I have quite a few pictures of the atomic/army 6 door clipper made in 41/42.

I think that a cool car...........

You mean like THIS?.... Yes, one still exists.....:D:D:D:D
