  1. The brake lines on my Maryland Reatta (lots of salt, high humidity)developed a high pressure leak from what was diagnosed as rusted brake lines throughout. Neither Meineke nor other brake shops could repair. Auto Brake Masters of Rockville, Md., custom made the brake lines. They had to buy a special crimping tool. Cost me over $1,000. Also, Aamco replaced corroded, leaking power steering cooler with a non-spec slightly larger cooler they had on hand, total cost $200. You would think the body would be full of rust but it is not. Go figure.
  2. My 1990 Reatta has recently developed a strange screeching noise, particularly when I turn the wheel. I cannot tell whether the noise is mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic in nature. At first I thought it was wheel bearings, but it doesn't sound metal-to-metal. The noise is not constant, particularly when driving in a straight line. It is most noticeable when making turns. The noise has not impaired the car's performance and is not getting any worse that I can tell. Anyone have any idea of what's causing this? Thanks.

  4. Twice now in hot weather my taillights have come on by themselves. The first time I was able to turn them off by pulling out the emergency flasher. However, it did not work the second time and I was forced to loosen a battery cable. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do about this problem? Thanks.
  5. The friendly neighborhood mechanic says my 1990 Reatta has a leak in the air conditioner compressor and condensor. I was charged $97.50 for this information. The mechanic says it will cost $1,500 to repair. My questions are: is there a more modern AC unit that will fit that I can buy from a junkyard? Will the hardware brackets and the wiring be compatible with the current AC installation? What kind of expenses am I facing? Thanks in advance. I want to thank everyone for their gracious response but my basic question remains unanswered. If I go to a junkyard and find a working AC compressor and condensor, guaranteed by the junkyard, can I be sure that the two units will fit the mounting and wiring hardware on my Reatta?
