  1. I'll buy almost any condition as long as it's straight, no dents. --Thanks.
  2. Hi -- I need a trunk torsion rods. That's the spring-steel rod that keeps the trunk lid balanced. I have a 1968 Buick Skylark but I think I can use rods from a variety of cars, especially A-Body cars. Thanks.
  3. Damndest thing. There are two 1/4" spring steel rods that cross over each other in the trunk of my '68 Skylark. They seem to keep the trunk lid counterbalanced so that it opens smoothly and stays up when open. Don't know how one of them snapped, but it did. Right at one of the bends that hooks it in place. I welded it back together twice. It's holding now, but I don't think that it will hold for long since spring steel doesn't like to be welded. I'm not even sure what you call these, but I'm pretty amazed that they're so hard to find. I thought for sure that Poston or Year One would make these as replacement parts. Aside from salvaging from parts cars, anyone know where to get these? Can I yank them from any A-Body from 1968 or thereabouts? As always, thanks in advance for any advice.
  4. I'll give these a shot. Thanks for all your help and wish me luck.
  5. I looked at those. Are they difficult to install?
  6. Anybody know where to get inexpensive seat covers that'll fit a '68 Skylark (4D)? I have a rear full bench and a front split bench. I used to get them at my local auto parts store. I think I bought tweed covers meant for a pickup, but they fit fine. I'm not looking for anything too custom, just something to get me by until I get the vinyl done. I don't even see anything for split bench anymore. Appreciate any suggestions. --TIA
  7. The package tray in my '68 Skylark keeps warping due to moisture getting in through the rear window. I'm pretty sure the gasket is dry rotted and just needs to be replaced. The window itself is intact. I want to install my new package tray and have it last for a long time but, surprisingly, I can't find anyone who wants to repair the glass. I've had auto glass specialists refuse the job. I've had others say that they would do it but would not be responsible if the glass breaks. I'm wondering if anyone has dealt with this problem. I know that there are sealers available in caulk tubes. Is it possible to remove the outer glass molding, clean away the old gasket, and seal it myself with an after-market product? It seems like such a simple job compared with some of the other repairs I've done, I can't believe that it's holding up progress. Thanks in advance for any advice.
  8. Thanks to your advice, I went looking for a solid-state regulator. Had a hard time finding one readily available. Did some research and found out that even models with AC had only a 55 amp alternator. The one I put in wasn't marked, but when I went back to the store I got it from, I found out that they only stock 62 amp alternators. I went elswhere and bought a rebuilt 55 amp alt. So far, so good. No smoking regulator anyway. I really appreciate your help.
  9. I have a 1968 Buick Skylark Custom. 4 door, 350 V-8, 2 barrell. Been having charging system issues. If I drive for a while with the headlights and/or fan running, I usually find the battery low or dead the next time I try to start the car. Didn't seem like the battery wasn't charging at all, just like it wasn't getting enough charge. Put in a brand new Delco battery, and a new alternator and voltage regulator. After installing the new alternator, started the car and the voltage regulator started to smoke. My mechanic suggested that the regulator might be bad, so I replaced it with another one. Same thing. Smoke from the resistor in back of the regulator. I don't understand exactly what has happened. I don't think I could have connected the alternator wrong. Maybe a short somewhere? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
