  1. Thanks so much for the info. The windshield and framework from my '37 Dodge is finding its way over to a '37 Chrysler that another gentleman is putting together for himself. We had a feeling that they were compatible as he was working from a paper template and my assembly. I passed along the info and he should be good to go on his project. Mike R.

  5. Looking for help on the proper oil filter number for my 1956, 354ci, Imperial. I had saved the box and part number from a previous oil change but now it can't be located. Before I break it down to find the wrong size element I may just get fresh oil into the pan and change the filter when a correct application is located or cross referenced to a filter manufacturer. The listings that I've been able to trace cover the 1957-59 v8's but do not specify the 1956. To the best of my recollection, the filter was a canister type as opposed to the sock type, but I could be wrong. Any help will be appreciated! Thanks! Mike...
  6. Thanks for the information! I'll take a look at their forum and post the question there as well. At this point, I'm attempting to learn from the experiences of those who have gone through this. Not so concerned with the power requirements as the system may be converted to a 12v alternator.

  12. Hello Frank: I've been struggling with a 1956 Imperial Southampton. The system is 12 volt negative ground. The generator is tin tag identified with the following information: Chrysler Corporation 12 volt shunt generator, part no. 1704273... external voltage regulated and current control... Auto-Lite no. GHM-6003B... Serial no. 5L030157... Made in the U.S.A by the Electric Auto-Lite Co., Toledo, O. Not sure what the condition of the present regulator is or how to test. I do have a second regulator that I can swap over to but how do I prove that that unit is in working order before proceeding and possibly swapping out defective parts? Thanks for the reply! Mike...
  13. Bryan and Joe: Thanks for the support with the charging system. In the past I was told to isolate the small field wire from the regulator in order to protect the various windings of the regulator prior to making the connections from my "A" and "B" terminals for polarization and then reconnect the lead at the regulator. When the jumper is placed from "A" to "B" at the regulator I do observe a spark for that brief connection. Once the spark has been made, should this jumper remain in place for a moment in order to accomplish it's job or do you just obtain the spark and get out of there? At the generator connections, the terminal posts are two different sizes as are the end loops of my wire leads. This step was double checked during the removal/replace process. As they dress around the body of the generator they will only reach and terminate on the posts in one way. I will set up a jumper from the "F" terminal at the regulator to ground and observe the indication at the ammeter. What time on this jumper connection is recommended? Is this to be done just quick enough to determine any change in the reading at the ammeter? When the vehicle is running, if the battery is taken out of the circuit, will the vehicle stop or continue to run? What part of the system has been proven good or at fault by doing this?   14. Hi Joe: With the battery disconnected from the last attempt, do I again go through the procedure to polarize the generator? The indication on the ammeter is to the left of zero when the car was started. Thanks in advance! Mike...
  15. Hi Bryan: Went out and attempted the procedure. Positive battery cable was removed from the battery post connection. The negative battery cable was left in place on the battery post. The generator remained installed on the car. Both of the wire leads at the generator were disconnected from the generator posts. Got a jumper to "spark" the field terminal stud at the generator from the positive battery post. Reconnected the two wire leads at the generator. Reconnected the positive battery cable to the battery post. Isolated the field wire from it's terminal at the voltage regulator. Got a "spark" from the "B" terminal to the "A" terminal at the regulator. Reconnected the field wire at the voltage regulator. Started the car and observed a "reversed" charge indication at the ammeter. Turned the car off. Continued to observe the ammeter needle reading to the discharge side of the gauge with the vehicle key off/vehicle not running. Back under the hood, quickly disconnected the battery from the circuit and heard the voltage regulator "release" from whatever state it was just in. Anticipating your help. Thanks! Mike...
