  1. I have a 52 Chev 3100 pickup. I have been having wiring problems. The 50+ year-old wires have become stiff and brittle. Also, brake lights and turn signals do not respond as quickly as I might like. It takes time to build brightness -- a problem for turn signals. Would the expense of new wiring help this situation? If so, is there a good supplier of original white cloth jacketed wire?
  2. I have a 52 Chev 3100 pickup w/ 216 CID engine. Everything is in good running order. But as with anything, everything wears out over time. My wiper motor is getting weak. The truck is equipped with the extra vaccuum boost tower on the fuel pump, but even with this, at idle, the wipers tend to die. It currently has a single-speed vaccuum motor. There are 6V electric replacements available. Before anyone gets too upset . . . no, I don't purposefully drive this wonderful machine in the rain. But there are days when such things happen. Give me your best shot. What do you think?
  3. Wow! So the wide whites may be a mistake if we're sticking to the original ... Thanks for the info concerning the modern move to the wide whites. I fell for them. And you're right -- The tires were expensive and poor. Trying to drive the truck on trips of any length was like taking your life into your hands. The tires sought out every road variation throwing the vehicle all over the road. They also did heat which, I'm sure, sped their demise. I'll look for the bias tires you mentioned and compare them too the Coker radials. Thanks so much for all the info!
  4. I have a '52 Chev 3100 pickup with a 216 6cyl. It has never had an oil filter. I've been dumping the oil about every 800 miles -- at least once per year. I picked up the original add-on Fram filter unit, but I am not sure where to plug in the lines. Has anyone had experience with these add-ons? Is it effective? Which plugs do I take out to hook it up? Thanks a bunch!
  5. There are nothing like wide whitewalls to dress up a vehicle. But on my 52 Chev. PICKUP my bias tires need to be replaced. A number of people have recommended radials. What are your thoughts? Do you know any good tire suppliers for the 6.00 X 16 rims? This truck is primarily a driver. Though it is a looker going down the road, it is one year too new to compete in shows around here. I get grouped with 1970's and 80's trucks with all the trimmings. I simply love the history and enjoy showing it regardless.
  6. I've got a problem. I've taken apart nearly everything on a 1952 Chev 3100 pickup. It's now in a very drivable state. But the driver's side main window has cracked. I have no idea how to extract it. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> Anyone have a clue? Thanks for your consideration!!!
  7. Chevrolet restorers, in your opinion, who is the best supplier of quality engine / body / electrical parts?
  8. I've heard pros and cons about 12 volt conversions. My truck all original equipment but the wiring is very fragile and it does need a new wiring harness. A 12 volt system would give it a real boost in the head and taillight department. But what would it do to the resale, etc.? Anyone have any thoughts?
  9. I have a '52 Chev. 3100 equipped with a vaccuum-powered TRICO Windshield washer system. Does anyone know where to get parts or decals for such a system?
