What is the best pump packing material to use for packing the water pump seals on a 1925 DB, and who/where is a good source to locate this material?? I have used "rope" type material, but this just does'nt seem to last...

I have a 1925 Dodge Brothers sedan, and am looking for a mechanical type fuel gage that will fit into my gas tank,(like the original) or a suitable 12volt electric sending unit and gauge which is wired for a "positive ground" type electrical system.<BR>Any help here would be much appreciated!!
