1. I'm younger then most of you probibly and i was just wondering if any of you could answer this question. I work in a parts plant making interior parts: dashes, door panels and consoles for Buick, GMC Trucks, Caddilac, Lincons(sp?), Honda, and Chrysler mini-vans. Have all suppliers made parts for multiple makes in the past? (say 20 years ago?) What really sepereates one make from another now since half of all the cars produced are made from parts produced by the same people/companies? Sure the powertrains are different but is that it?

 2. That is right, almost all cd changers now connect directly to the antenna line of the radio. There was one of these installed in my car before I bought it and when I test drove it didn't sound to bad, but sound quality IS limited to the radio reciving this signal.

 3. Water(condensation) and oil don't mix, so how could you have "very black oil"? As far as I know the blackness in oil comes from carbon from combustion. shocked.gif And anyways, how much extra coolant could flow through a mis-desinged thermostat housing to prevent an engine from reaching operating temperature? You could run an engine without a thermostat at all and it would reach operating temperature (it would just take quite a while). Just my thoughts, correct me if I'm mistaken.

 4. I plan on having my 76 Electra painted this spring/summer, (that goldish brown color just ain't my thing). I am planning on going with some shade of black and was wondering if it would be better to replace the tan vinyl top with a new top or to attempt to use vinyl paint to change its color. www.atrim.com/Page86.html lists vinly top paint that is gauranteed to not chip, peel or any of that stuff. Has anyone tried this product, or should I just just replace it, and if I do what kind of cost/labor am I looking at? Thanks for any advice.
[This message has been edited by 76Electra (edited 01-10-2001).]

 5. I agree with the jumped timing chain idea, happened to me after getting rearended a couple years ago. Local mechanic tried to blame stuck carb float as problem, but I finnaly figured out the problem myself. Insurance company wouldn't pay to fix, they coudn't understand how an accident could cause it (duh!!), so, being broke, I advanced the timing and drove it until it stalled turning a corner one day and I got smoked by a truck. Ironiclly, the insurance company said it was my fault.

 6. Can anyone help me out as to what controls the delay? Is it in the switch, the motor, or some kinda control box in between? When I try to use the delay, the wipers move up, stay there for 10 seconds, then go down, stay there for 10 sec, back up, and so on.
Thanks for any advice...

 7. I'm also interested in this topic, as in where did all the power go from 70 to 76. Was it just decreased C/R or was it that and cam, intake, carb, etc. changes? It would be nice if I could make 70 power in my 76 with just a head change (if it is bigger chambers vs. dished pistons that dropped the C/R) but I am probibly dreaming right?

 8. I plan on driving my boat this winter to. (mabey it's a being 21 thing?) It's in good shape, 95,000 miles, almost brand new interior, no huge rust, just a little surface rust along the mouldings, and has made it through the last two winters with the previous owner no problem. I have only been driving this car (to work to make Buick parts) for a week and after having to drive my old car (a 91 Dynasty) across town today, I couldn't imagine driving anything that small again. It's getting oiled as soon as possible as the snow has started to come, (not enough to salt yet). Just thought I'd throw my two cent's in.
