  1. Staff Sgt. Buford Johnson, Crew Chief 332nd Fighter Group, World War II, at the Tuskegee Airmen Top Guns 60th anniversary Celebration in 2009, Las Vegas. Sgt. Johnson described the turbo and wastegate operation being similar to that of the P-47 fighters he serviced in Italy in 1944.

  2. As far as we know, this is the first actual "Red Tail" race car honoring the Tuskegee Airmen, also known as the Red Tails. Several Tuskegee Airmen have raced, had special cars, and custom plates after the war. Past Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. National president Roger "Bill" Terry embarked on a LeSalle based land speed car project after the war. "We could not raise the money". Terry said at the 2005 National Convention. noted Michael Joseph, an engineer and inventor. The 1969 Buick Electra "GSX" was designed in 1979 as a high speed version of the '69 Electra coupe. The original color drawing, complete with 99th Pursuit squadron markings, was completed in 1982. The "Faithful Pursuit" shown above was completed in 2004 and dedicated by retired Air Force Major General Mike Hall. 7 Documented Original Tuskegee Airmen and 200 guests attended the program.Over $100K was spent on the program, including the truck and trailer. Over $40K was spent on the engines, turbos, and associated electronics alone. "Faithful Pursuit was developed as a test bed for inventor John Dove's Holodar wind shear detection system. That's what really drove the program. We needed a high speed land based test bed for the planned low cost wind shear detector; drive time was cheaper than airborne test time. Sadly Dove a former ROME LABS research engineer, also the father of the CD/DVD technology, died just 3 months before the dedication and the Holodar development effort ceased in 2004.""We were pleased the Tuskegee Airmen accepted the 1982 concept and allowed us to use their name." Said Michael Joseph, Faithful Pursuit designer. "We have signatures of men from each of the four combat squadrons on our red tail. We have attended many conventions and functions where we expose people to the Tuskegee Airmen's legacy through Faithful Pursuit."
