  3. Hi DFeeney, Thanks for the info. I've tried numerous times to join the HET Club and register for forum use, but there's something wrong with the website. I sent an email to the webmaster, but haven't heard back. I'll see if I can find the club magazine somewhere else on the internet. Ed
  4. Thanks Oldtech. I'll make sure it's got the proper free play. I just have trouble believing a clutch going bad literally overnight with no prior symptoms.
  5. Hi, I took my newly acquired Essex out for drive yesterday and noticed what seems to be clutch slippage. I've done plenty of clutch work over the years, but I'll admit my ignorance with a wet clutch. The symptoms are unlike anything I've experienced before, I shift the car into 1st and release the clutch with only very slow forward motion at any rpms. If I shift into reverse, the clutch engages and the car backs up normally. There is no noise or burning smell at all. Today, I drained the clutch and transmission fluid replacing it per the instructions in the shop manual with no change to the symptoms. Nothing strange or any bits of cork came out in the old fluid. The clutch pedal goes all the way to the floorboard and I'm going to adjust it per the shop manual tomorrow. I'll admit I'm stumped on this one. If I do need a clutch rebuild I'll likely do the transmission as well. Any advice, diagnosis, or info on rebuilders would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Ed
  6. Hi pmhowe, The highest reading I got on the block was around 180-190. My Motometer probe is slightly in the coolant. I'll probably drain it, do a good flush and watch it. Thanks for the response! . Ed
  7. Thanks, Tom. Is there a certain time or day you prefer?
  8. Hi, I'm trying to assess the thermo syphon cooling system in my new to me 1926 Essex Coach. According to the Moto Meter it's within the acceptable range, although I haven't checked the accuracy of the Moto Meter. I took the car on a short drive this afternoon in upper 60s ambient temperature. As soon as I returned I checked the temp at the top of the radiator with my heat sensor and was getting about 220 degrees At the bottom, it was in the low 140s. I haven't had any boil over or other issues. Please let me know hat you think. Thanks, Ed
  9. Hi Tom, The Essex finally arrived and it has an Autolite distributor. I'm looking for points, condenser, rotor and cap. Thank you for your help. Ed
  10. Hi Old Buicks 2. I believe it's Bosch, but I won't know for sure until the car arrives. According to Reliable Carriers, it should be picked up in the next ten days and then arrive here in 8-10 days thereafter. As soon as i can, I'll make sure which and then get back to you. I want to do a complete tune up and go over it thoroughly. Thanks and I'll contact you soon! Ed
