  1. Does anyone have a source for a Stewart Gascolator? My intentions are to get as close as I can to original parts. David
  2. I thought it might be the vacuum acting on the fuel line...wanted to be sure...thanks for the confirmation...one less thing to be concerned about... David
  3. Roger, here is a link to the youtube frothing
  4. Paul, thank you for your wise counsel regarding the rebuild. I am afraid of taking it apart which is the reason for my post. Roger, I have a short video, and will try to send it with this post. Not successful with the video...shot it with my iphone and its format is not acceptable for this post.
  5. Thanks for your insight Roger. My after market fuel filter is in line below the vacuum tank. I will have to explore the vacuum tank. I am always wary of exploratory surgery, in particular regarding harming existing gaskets and not being able to replace them. Do you think raising the location of my filter would make a difference? David
  6. Thanks for the advice regarding the oil leak. I/we seemed to have solved it! David
  7. I downloaded four pages about the stromberg oe-1 install and adjustments and will study them before deciding to dismantle anything. David
  8. Gas leaking from the two "plug" screws under the carburetor. Need advice on procuring a rebuild kit for a Stromberg OE-1 carburetor for my 1924 Franklin 10-B. The car will start and run, but the leakage has me worried. I tried tightening them but the leak is persistent. These screws are not easy to get to so I suspect I will have to remove the carburetor in order to solve the leakage problem. At that point, shouldn't I rebuild and retune the whole carburetor, or am I taking on a major ordeal? I also noticed a frothing happening in my fuel filter every 4 or five minutes lasting about 20 seconds or so. I am a novice classic car owner who does not want to mess this beautiful car up. Any words of wisdom out there would be appreciated. Mahalo(thanks), David
  9. I actually found an old offset 9/16 inch distributor wrench set, which really made it easier to tighten and loosen the nuts. It came apart in the middle and accommodated a quarter inch drive. So after testing the torque of a few other cylinder nuts I tried to match them physically without a torque wrench as I could not make the torque wrench work for all of them. Guess I used the "Strong man with a 3 inch wrench" approach this morning. LOL. I ran the car up and down our steep driveway of 25 yards and had no leakage. I will examine the engine tomorrow morning to see how successful the fix turns out. The accommodated torque diagrams are great but I saw them after my fix. I will back track to see if I can figure out what torque I ended up with. I will use them in the future whenever applications command improvisation. Took a picture with my phone so that I will have it with me. For now I think the issue is solved... will see tomorrow. Thank you all for your help. I noticed a gas leak drip from the brass stop cock valve under the vacuum fuel pump while torquing away. Hoping I can rebuild or replace it. Any suggestions?
  10. Thank you all for your suggestions. I will proceed carefully. I thought I might test the torque of a different cylinder slowly increasing the torque of the wrench if I can get one on, until it begins to resist. Yes there are double nuts used to lock in the position of the final turn. I will release the lock then test the torque as well as I can surmise. I will follow the general rule of starting in the center and proceeding outward crisscrossing to insure the uniform pressure. This vehicle was my father in laws pride and I hope to keep it running as smooth and as long as possible for our family. Thank you again for your advice. I will keep you posted on my progress.
  11. I have a small leak of oil in the base of number 3 cylinder from the firewall. Would like to retorque but I need the specs. Can anybody help please. David
