  1. That's a relief the molded heater hoses are available, thanks for sharing. Ordered a pair and the bypass hose as well.
  2. For sure no DOT 5 in a Teves system. I converted 10 of my 1950's-60s classics to DOT 5 with excellent results. The Reatta will only get DOT 3 with fluid flushes every 2 years.
  3. The 33 year old original upper radiator hose on my '90 sprang a pinhole leak, time to change both radiator hoses. The original double-wire hose clamps weren't pretty, but they are now. I like to maintain authentic original appearance on my cars, so I cleaned up the surface rust on the clamps with a wire wheel and fine steel wool, then re-zinc plated them with a kit from Eastwood. They look like new. About the heater hoses...I guess they are nearly impossible to replace? Molded hoses that attach to the heater core way up under the cowl, seemingly impossible to access. My heater hoses aren't leaking, so I'll say a prayer.
  4. Awesome tips, thanks to all. If it's likely the black plastic elbow on the gravity feed line will break, I won't take a chance and do #2 and flush plenty of fresh fluid through the lines. I converted all my 1950's classics to DOT 5 silicone fluid, one and done, 30 years in one of my cars with zero issues. But I will heed the warnings about DOT 5 with Teves and stick with good old moisture absorbing, paint eating DOT 3 for my Reatta.
  5. I will soon be replacing the accumulator and all rubber brake hoses on my 1990. I want to flush out the old brake fluid, which I will do before I start replacing those items. Using a turkey baster, I siphoned out all the old brake fluid I could from the reservoir, but there's still a lot of old fluid in the reservoir in chambers I can't access with my siphon. What's the best procedure to get rid of all that old brake fluid? Since DOT 3 fluid absorbs moisture and corrodes metal parts in the hydraulic system, I want to get rid of all that old dark brake fluid and start fresh. Also, I see black wires to the wheels with cracked plastic insulation. I assume those are the ABS wheel speed sensors? Are those a bear to R&R?
  6. The instrument cluster and ECCP backlights on my 1990 only light up occasionally when the ignition key is turned on. When the IPC doesn't light up, the backlights on the climate control and sound system don't light up either. When good luck is with me, both will light up and stay lit until the key is turned off, then it's a crap shoot if they will light up the next time the key is turned on. This seems to indicate the problem is not with the instrument cluster itself. Whatever feeds power to the IPC also feeds power to the ECCP and sound system backlights. Does this indicate a bad BCM?
