    " 1961 was the only Impala 2 door sedan produced in Impala's glory days, i.e. 1958-1975.

    I suppose you could consider the 74-76 Custom Coupe as a two door sedan. I prefer to forget those ungainly things, along with their contemporary C-body Buick, Oldsmobile and Cadillac coupes."

    "Very confusing, the names changed over time and were coined by the manufacturer with no industry standard.  During these years a sedan had a post or frame around the door glass.  Two door, Tudor, coupe were equivalent.  If there are no frames around the glass and no post from the front to rear then the word is “hardtop”. 2 door hardtop, 4 door hardtop, sport coupe and sport sedan."

     

    "There is nothing in the term 'coupe' which defines how many doors it has. The word has just evolved to mean a two-door car. That hasn't stopped European makers from building four door coupes in recent years.Coupe comes from the French word 'cut'. Body style naming has always been 'fluid'."

     

    Now, here we see a 4-door (sedan) with no frames around the windows, but having a rigid "B" pillar.

    What do we want to call this ?

  3. Shops in the Northwest will quote $100,000. for starters, without having seen the car. If that doesn't scare the customer away, they'll ask for detailed photos or for you to bring the car by (no "house call" estimates). Labor alone could eat up most, if nor all, of that $100k. and then add parts and supplies   ...and that was for an early '30's non-running but "complete" mid-level orphan sedan (non "big three").

     

    That's probably why common project cars aren't selling except to the DIY crowd.

  4. Here's a couple of piddlys about the Pontiac. Upholstery vinyl looks original, especially with the embossed emblems and the sunburn near the package tray, but the cloth inserts are not a factory pattern. The hubcaps may be original, but the fake knock-offs are added accessory items. No comment about the trunk mat except that it reminds me of grandma's oil cloth kitchen table cloth.

     

    The GM 1960 vista hardtops, in my opinion, appear more attractive due to the deemphasized tail fins and flat wide decks used that year as opposed to '59.

    Built between 1963 and 1971 the Rover TC2000 or P6. was the class of the field in Europe.

    This particular Rover TC2000 has been in under the same ownership here in Spokane since 1970 and was actually driven to high school by its current owner ! The car is finished in Burgundy over black and has been driven but 73,000 miles since new! The car is in remarkably nice condition and is absolutely dry AND rust free ! The cars interior is in great condition, no dash cracks, headliner is taught and even the clock works ! Seat padding is still excellent and supportive and the seats show little if any wear.I remember seeing only a few of these during my over 50 years of car addiction but, until this car came along, I had never driven one. What a great driving little car! The car feels vault like solid and is truly a pleasure to drive on your favorite country road or on the freeway. The 2.0 liter inline 4 cylinder overhead cam lump is enough to propel the car quite comfortably up to speed. The cars 4 speed manual gearbox is butter smooth. The car is a little cold blooded which I will attribute mostly to our poor fuel quality here. Once warm, the car runs great ! The cars brakes are excellent with good modulation and pedal feel. The car tracks straight and there is no excessive steering play.... a very nice and comfortable driver.

    Very few of these wonderful Rovers were imported to the US however, many were produced and most parts are readily available. This is a great little car that can be enjoyed and proudly shown as is. Shown by appointment.

    Great runner, lots of recent work. This is a fun working project, gets lots of looks and smiles and starts conversations wherever it goes. Bought it from a Saab family on Whidbey Island two years ago, and I am losing my garage space so I have to let it go. It is a very fun, stable front wheel drive car that is easy to work on, has an amazingly supportive community, and parts are more available and less expensive than you might think.     The old guard is diminishing in numbers. Most younger collectors can't relate to cars made 20 or 30 years before they were born. I appreciate pre-WWII cars and owned more than a few in the past (1960's) but grew up riding in and living with 50's through '70's cars. 

    I still think 100 year old cars are neat, but mostly impractical, costly to maintain, and of diminishing interest to enthusiasts and the general public who, for he most part, never saw these cars when they were commonly on the road.

    The days of $500. tri-five Chevys is long gone. You'd think they came with gold bars in the glove box these days. They're still holding pretty strong despite the general slackening of the market for '50's collector cars. We purchased, street raced (and scrapped) many a cheap '55-'57 Chevy back in the '60's.
