  1. I'm having some woes with the digital dash in my '84. The speedometer and odometer are both not working. I know it's not a problem with the whole dashboard, because the fuel gauge still works perfectly fine. I have a Service Engine Soon light that comes on if I drive a constant speed for more than a couple minutes or so, and it's throwing Code 24, which I know to be for the Vehicle Speed Sensor. But because I know that my car still has a mechanical odometer, not digital, could this be because of the speedometer cable not working right? I want to know before I pull the trigger on buying a new VSS, and wanted to know if anybody here could give me any input on the matter. It is worth noting that I didn't have any of these issues until I got my transmission rebuilt, but these issues didn't start until a couple of months after the rebuild was complete. My Riviera is (perhaps unfortunately) a daily driver, being driven some 2,000 miles every month, so right now I have a suction cup smartphone mount with a GPS speedometer app on my phone to temporarily fill both functions, but I would still like to fix the problem if I can do so without surrendering my car to a shop. Another much less trifling matter is a bizarre phenomenon by which every other time I turn on the car, all of the gauges are in metric. This combined with the button to reset the tripmeter not working anymore. This has been happening for much longer than the speedometer/odometer issues have been, and started immediately after I replaced the fuse for the center cigarette lighter.
