This is the acetylene generator on my 1912 Buick model 36. Other generators I have had were just a water tank that dripped water onto the carbide in an airtight container below and presto, acetylene whooshed out to the lights. But this one has at least 4 compartments with interconnecting pipes between the compartments. And the tap on the end would appear to turn off the water and the gas at the same time which could account for excess pressure inside and the severely cracked and plate under the tap. My problem is figuring out exactly how it works and what the setup is supposed to be in the lower compartment where you put the carbide.
Any info would be appreciated.
Cheers
