  1. Ok so we got it figured out Turns out, as previously discussed cam timing was off. The machine shop didn't even line up the dots to install it straight up. It was installed at 1 and a half degrees retarded. After many hours we found that it was happiest at four degrees advanced. It is now a totally different car and all my low end power is restored. And static compression has raised to 180 Thank you everyone for your help. I'm so happy right now
  2. I used 30 weight From talking with all of u I am going to degree the Cam and try a dual plain first
  3. Based off when I saw the hose start to retain oil I'd say it's in the mid 10s 🤷‍♂️
  4. I got 11.25 but I don't think I was able to poor in the oil fast enough with a 10cc syringe so it's probably lower because there is no reason a 430 bored 30 over with dished pistons would be in the elevens in my openion
  5. Steel gasket That's a pretty neat trick I can totally do that
  6. Yes it seems that I will be focusing on getting the Cam degreed we for shure know its not and it should be Finding out the compression ratio a dp intake and probably a q jet of some kind I wish I could do all that right now and get back to everyone but all that's ganna cost money so it's going to be a bit I just blew I don't even know how much on this rebuild Is there a good thread for buying and selling parts? Would going to the dyno aid in diagnostics
  7. Thanks Telriv I had the same feeling I messed up with the single plane. Thought I'd get away with it cause of how much torque the riv has stock. Wish I had another manifold to test out. Might take awhile to get one. 1965rivgs All I would ever want is a set of 3:42 posi gears. got a lead on one?
  8. Yup first thing I did was leak down and compression cold and hot all results came back the way u expect from a rebuilt engine I did do it wrong the first time and then learned to do it with wide open throttle that was months ago so I can't remember the difference in the wet/dry I have been going at this awhile Got cast pistons from ta performance All that other stuff u mentioned about being in the hole I know nothing about. Pretty much why I thought it was a good idea to have the machine shop do it Would u think valve overlap could be a problem with it having a single plane intake
  9. So talking to them I did not get a compression ratio. The only thing they did that would have affected it is boring it out .30 they did say that they only lined up the dots on the Cam crank sprockets Carb is brand new and I got a jet and rod kit i have gone leaner and richer and not seen much difference I do not have original linkage and for the pitch it is wired to a toggle switch and I hear it clicking and notice a difference when power braking. Compression is 155 on all cylinders I was also thinking the secondaries were lagging it doesn't seem to pull hard till about 30MPH
  10. Ya I'm shure foot on brake and gas and it holds till a little over 2000 rpm ill verify again. I'll take a video if I need to. machine shop built it and it seems to drive fine at part throttle could it be that the transmission is 53 years old and just tierd Appreciate the help
  11. I have the shop book and will check that out. I did not know it was ajustable but I have it wired to a switch in the cab and I'm shure its working it has a noticeable difference The machine shop installed the Cam but I believe it is not a multiple key way. But I can find out Cross posted in the buick sub forms
  12. OK I have a 430 buick engine that was just rebuilt bored 30 over Stock heads SP1 single plane intake manifold TA shorty header's 2.5" exhaust 750 carburetor edelbrock I'll attach a picture of the Cam specs Stock 400 switch pitch transmission 307 to 1 open diff Recurved HEI distributor 36degrees total at 2500 Basically my 0 to 60 time is 13 seconds I feel like something is wrong. If I'm already moving it drives like a dream Also I'm new to the forum so it's nice to meet everyone
