I recently purchased a 1926 Hupmobile Model A with 20” wood spoke wheels. I plan to take it on a 2500-3000 mile trip in 2026 if I decide it can make it. I purchased 4 new tires and found out how difficult it is to find anyone who will work with the split rims. One rim is needing to be replaced and I will need two spares for a total of 3 rims I need to purchase.
I have learned that there are various designs of these rims. Some are smooth on the inside of the rim that contacts the metal ring around the wood spokes. Mine are hard to describe but they have what I refer to as two ribs or rims around the inside of the wheel, the larger one being on the street side. Is there a source for these split rims? What other cars might have the same design split rim?
That being said it might be best, for the purpose of the trip, to get wheels that do not have split rims. Is that doable?
