Sadly only one I found so far is that one. They seem impossible to locate unless there's an updated model that would fit -

According to the parts catalog is says 511498 is for 6 and 511499 is for 8 but they look identical I assume it's a weight balance difference. Sad because part looks new -

I found a 511499 just not sure if it would work, the current part on the car was strangely the original 1936 497057 part see photos for reference. Parts book says 511498 I'm just curious howuch difference there might be, where can I find one or have one made ? -
1952 harmonic balancer marking 497057
Silverstreak36 replied to Silverstreak36's topic in Pontiac Flathead Owners
To amend my last post the balancer is the original 1936 balancer hence the marking 497057 I'm on the hunt for a 511498 or a replacement 497057 balancer -
See pictures, I wish I could say this thing will survive but I doubt that. Does anyone know where I could send off these sad remains to have custom build made or replacement?

1936 Pontiac DeLuxe Tour with 1952 239 Pontiac straight 6

The engine is a 52' six. The car is a 36 Pontiac but had it's motor replaced in the 50's the balancer would be from said 52' six engine. I did find a balancer for a 52' eight it looks identical just wondering if there is significant difference between the balancer of the 6 vs 8 of a 46-54 engine see pic attached -

Hello all, I have a pickle to deal with. From the photos attached I think it speaks for itself, my harmonic balancer shattered with no sign or warning of this coming. The car was in the driveway idling but luckily I was able to start it and reverse it quickly into the garage. The question will a harmonic balancer for a straight 8 fit the straight 6 they seem identical but wondering if anyone knows this answer. Thanks -
Hey everyone looking for insight on where I might find 1936 Pontiac Deluxe hood bumpers pads. Found front ones but I'm still missing rear to keep hood up. Wondering of Chevy masters or Oldsmobile pads might fit as they are close in designs.

The question of the day, my 1936 Pontiac deluxe carries a 1954 flathead 6 motor. What type of oil should I use in this vehicle when doing oil changes?

Wonderful information I'll work on that tonight and report back my findings I have attached a link to the sending unit I bought https://www.ebay.ca/itm/353080573054 How do I fix dragging clutch ? -
Ok here are my puzzles of the week After many weeks of work, my car went for an hour long drive. Here are the issues I found. 1) when stopping at an intersection , I have to stay in 3rd gear and depress clutch until engine idles lower and then quickly shift into first otherwise it's nothing but grind to get into first. My question could it be engine idling too high or clutch not disengaging enough or something else. 2) when I finally arrived home, the coolant once again boiled over out of the rad cap even though gauge showed 180 degrees. Give or take. 3) after adjusting brakes when applying brakes car pulls hard to the right. 4) sending unit was bad so I got one plugged it in mind you with a 12v to 6 volt unit since I'm running 12v now but gauge was stuck on full. Ran a new ground wire to sending unit and now it goes up to empty when you turn key but never higher. Any thoughts? 5) when reversing I here a rattling sound coming from shift stick could clutch chatter be part of my issue with gears if the previous owner was maybe grinding often ? Thanks

1935 silverstreak oil breather smoke
Silverstreak36 replied to Silverstreak36's topic in Pontiac Flathead Owners
I also did clutch pedal adjustement today so pedal is much better and gapped right. I also had to tighten other long screw at bottom of pedal that is attached with bolt and codder pin. Helped a lot to allow clutch to fully disengage -
1935 silverstreak oil breather smoke

Thanks for all the fantastic info sorry for typo it's a late model 36 sorry. -
Two questions First when I turn off car after a little drive I notice a small amount of smoke coming from oil breather on motor. Is this normal? Not a lot but still some almost like steam. Second question and a stupid one when down shifting or even shifting up sometimes I get some grinding. Now I dont force it so its very silent grind but I was told by an old collector that I can shift without clutch if rpm match the spline requirement this way it will keep clutch safer for longer. My question, I know some cars older trucks you can shift a life time without clutch and never cause damage. Is this car considered one of those or will it be detrimental to my clutch and tranny ? Thanks if it's bad how do I get into gear without grind or is it fine so long as I dont force it ? I know I said two but it's three questions haha thanks
