The 30 chevy box is partially rebuidable but if certain things are worn you might be out of luck. A 31 box is a better replacement and easier to adjust as far as steering and bearing play goes. I just replaced a really bad 30 box out with an excellent condition 31. What a difference.
Thanks, these cars are new to me and I never thought a 31 would even fit on the 30. I have a source if this one doesn't work out.

Move it into your shop with dollies under the front wheels or a floor jack under the front axle. You might also have to use scrap wood under them if you are moving on gravel. When inside your building remove the Pitman arm and you have isolated the steering box. It should be easy to trouble shoot then.
I have it on dollies now and where I want to park it. The cross shaft seems froze in the box. I will take the pitman arm off this week. I have no idea how these come apart if anyone has done this before please let me know.

Does it have a steering column lock?
They didn't have steering locks in 1930

1930 Chevrolet Coupe has been sitting for years. I tried to move it to my shop and found out the steering is locked up. I'm guessing the gear box is froze up so any suggestions so I can get it moved inside would be appreciated.

Update, turned the bezel where the end of the spring is between tabs and tapped with a rubber hammer slightly. The guy at Shoebox Central says that's how it's done. I guess this car is stubborn because nothing works. I just found out replacements are on back order.

I have the switch in now but still trying to get the bezel on. Anyone? The paint is a 10 so No scratches allowed to get it back on the switch.
-
The ignition switch fell out of the dash and I can't figure out how the bezel goes on to hold it in the dash. I tried to push it in and get the bezel on but it doesn't stay? Car is a 49 Ford sedan

I found one! Thanks everyone for the help

I would also ask on the VCCA site parts wanted. https://vccachat.org/
I had a real hard time finding these for my cars. I had to move the screw holes on a couple.
Is the door side hinge half still still there and okay?
Also need the width of your hinge and does the other side have a number stamped on the side that would be hidden when attached?
Dave
The other hinge has 15335 it is 1 3/4 wide or maybe just a 32nd less than 3/4 pretty close tho

Do you know if the front end is the same for '46,47.48? I have a neighbor who has a Desoto coupe in that year range but I can't remember exactly the year. It's a complete car and looks to be in good condition, being garage stored for many years but needs restoration.
Let me know if they are interested in selling it. I need a rear seat as well.

The car has a Dodge frontend on it. I don't like how the tire is close to the front wheel opening because the Desoto has a longer wheelbase. That is the reason I am looking for a Desoto frontend. I already have the Desoto bumpers, thanks

Looking for a complete 47 Desoto front sheet metal, hood, fenders, etc also need a rear seat for a 2dr sedan or coupe. If you don't have one maybe you know of a salvage yard?

Run some pictures and measurements of the left one and increase your odds by 95%.
Thinking no matter what I do the odds aren't great. They made hundreds of thousands of these cars so someone has parts.

I am at a loss in finding a door hinge for my wife's 30 Chevy coupe. The car came missing the pass side center door hinge. I have been looking for over a year so any leads would be appreciated. If you can help or know someone who has these parts let me know. I have already asked Gary Wallace

I have since removed the box from the car and taken the gear and shaft that goes to the Pitman arm out. The steering shaft is what is frozen up. Going to try heat where I think it may be stuck. If not I'll be searching for another box. Thanks for everyone's help.
