Ron Helm

In high school in mid 50’s my buddy had a 48 desoto, 4 door sedan. From the day he got it until going to college he never had a starter that worked. Luckily it really didn’t take much of a push for him to pop the clutch and it would start right up. I lived about a block from him and every morning I walked to his house and his mother and I would push the car to start. Once we got to school he would park on a small hill that aided greatly in getting started. I don’t remember how many starters he bought but he got to where he could install one blindfolded. Each time it wouldn’t work and so we would take it back to our local Pep Boys parts house and try another one. We had a lot of fun and a lot of good dating in that old car. The back seat was very roomy and comfortable. I eventually went off to college and he went into the local business with his father but some time later he got married and got a new desoto with those huge rear fender fins, I don’t remember what year it was but I don’t think it had starter problems. Great memories from a long time ago.
