  1. OK, here we go. I am working on my friends car. I have many questions but for this topic I am interested in th vacuum advance. I’ve put a vacuum gage on the line and found it will not hold vacuum. Is this normal? I am aware that the advance chamber is designed to pull a plunger against a spring tensioner to regulate the advance of timing. During diagnosis and fuel mixture adjustment using an airflow meter the carberator with the vacuum advance line would stall the engine when reading the airflow. specifics- The engine has been reciently rebuilt by an unknown source. It also has the hydraulic lifters removed. The intake has been converted to two carbs.
