  1. OK, Finally got a chance to look at the car again. Dropped the cover to expose the flywheel. With the rear of the car jacked up, I turned the rear wheels and the flywheel does not move but I can see the metal plates in the clutch moving. When I first had the problem, I was adjusting the nut on the shaft that comes from the clutch pedal arm. I'm not sure if I may have adjusted it too much in the wrong direction and whether that may have something to do with the current problem. Can anyone give me advice on which direction I should be trying to re-adjust that nut. Also is there an approximate location that nut should be? Sorry if I sound very unknowledgeable but I am trying to help my 88 year old dad with this problem and also trying to learn about this vehicle. I attached a pic of the adjustment nut so it's location can be seen. Thanks for any help. Dave
  2. What thickness sound matting should I use on the roof and floor of my 56 Olds? Thanks
  3. My 22 Buick would not go into gear. It would just grind. I posted a question about how to solve this problem. I received a response that said to jack the car up so the rear wheels are off the ground. Start the car in high gear and then once the wheels are spinning pretty good, jam the brakes. Did that, heard a pop and now it goes into gear, but wheels won't spin. Anyone have an idea of what happened and why the car won't move at all? Thanks...Dave

  5. Dad had to replace the steering box many years ago and, in the process, had to disconnect the hand controls. Unfortunately either didn't have a camera or cell phone handy to take pics. Where can we find any diagrams or other that will help us reconnect? Thanks...Dave
  6. Paul, Really appreciate all the help. With your suggestion on throttle & choke operation we got the girl started. One thing we meant to ask you was, what should the torque be for the spark plugs? Pic of the old girl before Dad decided to put a new color dress on her. Now we just have to put her back together. Dave
  7. Paul, The screwdriver method worked. Dad got both valves to release. We're going to use the Mobile 1 & Mavel mixture on the pads and then hook up the gas line, cross our fingers and step on the starter. Thanks again...
  8. That sounds interesting. Any tricks or tools to compress the spring so it can be removed?
  9. Nice work on the carb. It looks brand new.
  10. Thanks again. I'll have dad try that. I'm in NJ and try to visit my folks every month or so in NC.
  11. Thanks Paul, Was concerned about how strong the pin that holds the retaining washer (probably not the correct terms) would be. Is that pin part of the valve stem or is it separate? I don't intend on prying enough to break it, but you never know.
  12. My 1930 Franklin coupe sat for a number of months at a body shop while she was getting new paint. I think it may have been outside without the hood on. Now I have two intake valves stuck in the open position. They are the first two going backwards from the front of the car. I tried putting some kerosene on the top of the spring letting it run down the valve stem and also lightly taping the spring and rocker to try and get it to free up. No luck. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks Dave

  15. Bleeding brakes...Dad's working on the car. I think he put new cylinders on so I'll take one out and measure it. Probably 3/8 just need to see what the thread is. Thanks
  16. Can anyone help me determine what size bleeder valves are in my 1956 Oldsmobile 88 2dr hardtop. I want to get speed bleeders for it but summit racing can't seem to find the correct size. Thanks...Dave
