  1. Hello everyone,

unfortunately with the COVID issues I've not been able to do much with selling my TC. With a death in the family and having to unload a complete house and belongings from that situation in my garage the 89 TC has been relegated to being outside for the first time in its life, it is under a cover however. the car is still for sale in the Kansas City area and I'd like to try and sell it this way before putting it on ebay and paying fees. I'm asking $3,300 OBO.

please let me know if there are any questions.

A car this nice should easily, easily,  sell for your price on E-bay. I have sold cars of lesser quality for more money there.

I've never tried to sell a car on ebay. may have to look into it, just don't like the hassles of these sites. but you're right, this car is in beautiful condition and I bought it for a project for my wife and I to go on cruise nights and get ice cream. but when I did this we were empty nesters and life just changed after that with full time care giver for my wife's mom who is handicapped and my two adult children moving back in with us. so now simply have to clear out the vehicle herd in my driveway.

    thanks again for the idea.

  3. Hello everyone,

here is a link for my TC that I purchased in 2017 and only have been able to put 3 miles on it. I was originally asking $6,000 for it but now down to $3,750 as I really need the garage space before winter. the car runs perfectly and only needs a little brake work as it was converted to a vacuum system in 2017 as well. just about every rubber hose and line has been replaced as well. I simply do not have time to spend on it now that we're taking care of an elderly family member and converting the house to be handicapped accessible and need the extra room in the garage. it has been garage kept it's entire life however if it cannot be sold soon will most likely be moved to an outside area and most likely parted out next spring.

I for one see a very nice 89 TC with very low mileage. That is not even 2,000 miles a year. It is understandable that you had to replace so much 'rubber' stuff and other misc parts. Looking at the engine compartment, it is in very original looking condition with the A/C compressor having been replaced and now charged with 134, which is good. The market is still soft on these cars so don't ask too much or you will just see no nibbles.

It's a shame that you cannot keep it, I certainly enjoy mine with more than 4 times the miles on the odometer. The conversion to standard vacuum assisted brakes should relieve the potential buyer of worries about the ABS system failing.  Good luck...  Hemi.

    Thanks Hemi,

yea, it would have to be the right price to let it go. as I indicated I really don't need to sell it as it's not costing me anything at the moment, but space. I couldn't have done the brakes without your assistance, they still need some work as they're still a little soft, but all of the rubber brake lines had to also be replaced. but the car runs absolutely perfect. as a matter of fact I was convinced to sell it until I started it up and pulled it out this past weekend to get pics and then sat down in it again. then the pure niceness of the car set in and I started doubting myself again. so the right buyer and price would have to come along.

  5. Hello everyone,

well the unfortunate day has finally come where I need to consider reducing the vehicle herd at my house and selling my 89 TC. I purchased this car in Sept. 2017 from a neighbor who was retiring and had inherited if from her parents who ordered and bought it new in the Southern California area. I'm basically the 2nd owner of the car, it has 57,000 miles on it and I've honestly only been able to drive it for 3 miles since I've owned it. the car was in very good shape when I bought it on needing some minor issues taken care of such as the power antenna repair, all of the hydraulic cylinders for the trunk, hood, spare tire access have been replaced. when I got it, it had been sitting in her garage for almost 15 years and when I started and drove it just about every rubber piece had rotted and broke. so I proceeded to replace the halfshafts, seals in the tranny and front end components, all of the shocks and struts. rubber hoses in the engine bay and all brake components. the anti lock brake system did not work very well so the system was converted to a vacuum assist system per some of the instructions that have been provided on this board. As you can see I replaced the radio with an aftermarket JVC unit, but still have the factory unit. I also took apart the center console and removed the cassette holders and cleaned it up and flocked it. you can see in the pics that the car has the original tool kit and umbrella, I've also got the factory manuals for it as well. The car has been garage kept its whole life and the only problem with the car is a small oil leak which appears to be around the rear main seal, the insulation piece that goes on the underside of the hood and lastly the drivers side seatbelt plastic piece near the floor mount is cracked and broke but still there. I also have every piece of paperwork from the original sale with the car. The reason I purchased it was for me and my wife as we reach retirement years to have something to put the top down and go on some nice cruise evenings. Unfortunately as most will understand, life usually does not turn out that way, we're now full time caregivers for my mother in law and life changes for two of my adult kids took place and they have moved back home. Thus necessitating the need to sell some vehicles to have more room in garages and driveways. I'm not in a position to have to sell it, but just posting to see if there is any interest and what I could possible get for it. I live in the Kansas City, MO area, any thoughts?

  6. Hello everyone,

I just recently purchased an 89 TC as some of you may have seen and have been going through it. the brake system seemed to have some problems with the brake pedal dropping when at a stop sign and I immediately just went in and converted it only to find just about all of the rubber brake lines in bad shape. but I did remove the complete original TC brake system and have all of the components including the computer. not sure if there is any value to these parts but wanted to offer them to anyone for sale if interested.

I know just what you should do!  Struggle with them for a while, get frustrated, then take Marty up on his offer of replacement calipers.:P Easy right?

    Thanks AJ,

I appreciated Marty's offer and am going through his catalogue as we speak as there are a few things I need. but as far as the rear calipers are concerned. I did find rebuild/boot kits for them and discovered how to get the piston apart. the drivers side had two spring washers internally that were broken that were not allowing the emergency brake to work properly. I've been lucky enough to find replacement pieces for less then a buck and rebuild them and have them back together. so if anyone wants to know how to rebuild rear brakes let me know, I;m somewhat of an expert now :).

  8. Thanks Marty.

I'll keep this in mind. but I have been able to secure some rebuild kits for the calipers. they're not in bad shape, but just really needing some rebuilding. has anyone had these apart or can provide instructions on how to break them down? The manual is not very clear.

    Thanks in advance

  9. Didn't have to worry about the ABS ring with the new axles as I removed the ABS for the vacuum driven brake system. I was able to get the complete ABS wiring harness removed from the car. just completed the complete front end rebuild which included new axles, tranny seals, brakes, rotors, rebuilt calipers, brake lines and struts. now on to the rear of the car.

  10. Single overhead cam 8 valve engine. I found one today but the supplier indicated these are obsolete and will not be made any longer. the boots on my car are torn and with it sitting in an non environmental storage area looks to be dried up and rusted. so not sure how long it was driven like this before being put into storage.

I put the lebaron system in but you failed to say what to do with  the wireing  all tail lights stay on what about the elec system that goes with the tevis  system thanks

are you talking about the tail lights or the brake lights. if the brake lights, then as Hemi pointed out you don't have the brake pedal switch adjusted correctly. if the tail lights for the car, you have a much bigger wiring problem. currently working on my conversion now

  12. Hello everyone,

sorry for all the questions as of late, but I'm quickly learning all of the issues with the TC as I try and fix all of the normal things. the thing I tackled tonight was the odometer gears. got all that corrected and the last time I drove it noticed the tach was a little sticky. so i took a close look at it and it appeared the needle was actually dragging a bit on the face, you could even hear it, so I thought I'd try and pull the needle off the pin a bit and it popped all the way off. now I can press it back on and have a little gap for clearance but not sure how to calibrate it so it reads correctly.

any neat ideas on how to do this?

    Thanks,

If the brake pedal slowly sinks to the floor as you sit with your foot on the brake pedal, such as at a traffic light, the problem is most likely a defective 'Hydraulic Actuating Assembly' commonly referred to as the master cylinder.

Thanks Hemi, yea, that's it exactly.

I've been pointed to some articles you wrote on converting from the anti lock brake system. is there a search I can do to find these as this may be my route?

  14. Hello everyone,

I'm new to the TC brake system with this style of antilock brakes and hope someone can help me. I just picked up an 89 TC that is in really good shape and runs well. the problem I have is with the brakes, they stop very well but if you just sitting for any length of time with your foot on the brakes the peddle all of a sudden goes to the floor and almost loses pressure on the system requiring you to let off and re-depress the pedal.

any thoughts as I've been digging through the manual on the braking system and a little lost.

    Thanks in advance

  15. Thanks everyone,

I was able to get it apart. the original owner of the car had every receipt from when the car was worked on and they had the passenger side seat switches replaced by a dealer in SoCal. when I got it all apart every post on the switches was broken and the seat switches were actually glued back in. the passenger side gray wire holder plastic was broken in one spot and the rear portion of the console was broken where the screws go. so I have a little fixing to do to get the console to mount firmly. just received my manual in the mail today so now it's time to start into the car.

    Thanks again

  16. Thanks again everyone, got the shifter knob off and the shift indicator line disconnected. pardon me for asking (but I do have my manual bought and on the way), but I can't get the console up high enough to get to the wiring to disconnect. but from looking up under the console as much as I can, I can't find a connector for the seat controls, does this honestly go beneath the carpet or is there a way to disconnect this.

thanks again in advance, hopefully my manual will be here soon
