1963 Corvair convertible ,not a single journey without something falling off or ceasing to work.It even broke down on the test drive when i sold it, abandoned the new purchaser at the ferry to denmark.If he had any sense he'd have pushed it overboard.

From what I know the Highlander horn was only offered in 1941 and 1942 ,I have a 1948 NewYorker highlander with all original interior ,19,000 miles from new and untouched. My 1941 Windsor convertible has the original red interior . Neither has a Sparton horn

I had this on my 48 new yorker ,it proved to be very low fluid in the fluid drive unit ,have you checked that?

I love washing my old cars ,hot water and shampoo with a sponge then carnauba wax with a microfibre cloth.Whitewalls and all the chrome last then relax.Takes about 2 hours for each car but ,you know what <i can't think of a nicer way to spend my time. If I didnt love my cars I wouldn't bother.

hi, its a trim option ,plaid seats and door cards ,highlander badging and a short lived optional Sparton horn that plays The Campbells are coming!
Plaid was available in various colours with the red being the most popular .This is now remade by SMS but is roughly $100 a yard ,you will need about 6 yards.And a lot of patience

I too tow an old trailer with a 48 new yorker!I I get about 12 to the gallon ,but thats english gallons!

I have owned my 48 new yorker in the uk for 11 years ,15mpg sounds about right ,but the loss of power is wrong i think as is the oil consumption ,maybe timing and switching to straight 30 will help ,am very envious of your trip to come!

hi all ,am thinking of buying a 56 premiere coupe ,all original ,is there anything in particular to look for? Any inherent weaknesses or well known things to look out for? Am swapping my 48 New Yorker for it if i like it ,would the original wiring be ok ,its a california car!

Dash is body colour as they are welded in and so have to be painted at the same time as the body.

Are you sure the overdrive knob isn't the freewheel knob to be used when towing?

If you want fast take off buy a motorcycle,don't buy a car with fluid drive.I have two so I know!

I had the one on the right in my 48 ,i was plagued by low oil pressure readings and i took that thing out about half a dozen times! Only when it was polished to a mirror shine did it work properly ,cleaning it REALLY well was the key.

Yes ,its the courtesy light switch ,the spare hole next to it is where i have put the on off toggle switch for my 6 volt electric pump on my 1948 New Yorker.

hi ,i will have to see if there is a spring in there ,i don't recall seeing one when the carb was rebuilt!

i spent 10 years looking for a stromberg AAVS2 for my 48 new yorker eventually gave up ,what i know exists is a 2 to 1 adapter for the carter carb.
