I'm restoring a 1949 Buick Roadmaster Sedanette, and have painted the wheels in the optional "Dante Red". I'm planning on installing narrow trim rings rather than the "wide" trim rings, so that more of the red wheel will be visible. While perusing an original color chip chart, I noted that pinstriping was done in "French White". "Buick Ron" from Rochester, N.Y. told me that there were originally 3 parallel pinstripes on the wheel, the center pinstripe being slightly wider than the other two. Out of curiosity, I installed a hubcap on one wheel to ascertain the width of the remaining area that I assume the triple pinstripe will be placed, and found that there is only an area 3/4" wide remaining on the center section of the wheel, between the outer edge of the hubcap & the "outer" portion of the wheel that contains the hole for the tire valve stem. Questions: #1: Will it be "correct" to use the "dogdish" hubcaps with narrow trim rings (regarding authenticity)? #2: Should the triple pinstripe be placed centered on the 3/4" wide area outlined above? I can't imagine that the triple pinstripe would be placed going through the area where the valve stem is located (?), but I'm not sure of this, and #3: What are the correct widths of the 3 pinstripes?
