Well what's the score Eric? You have me on the edge of my seat. I'm vetting the starting and charging circuits on my '56 Super and found your thread useful. Don't think my '56 has the vacuum switch on the carb like your '55 thou.

  3. Love that I find myself the enthusiast that the article is pointing people to be. I'm in the mentality of get it road worthy and run it! Life's short and the last thing I want to do is move around a sitting project for years when instead it could be ugly and making its own way to local shows and swap meets.

My current "project" was picked up knowing I'd need to rebuild the engine. Block is at the local speed shop now getting the love I can't provide. Looking forward to the spring nites and weekends getting the engine swapped and running!

  4. Selling Driver quality front bumper for a 1956 Buick Special or Century. Includes dagmars, filler panels. Structural supports for dagmars are good but main bumper support was torched before my time. One of the dagmars had a bolt snap and I drilled it out and remaining threads were chased. See pictures and reach out if you have questions. Have local party interest in dagmars so if interested in other parts separate let me know.

$300 +shipping. Local pickup preferred from Green Bay, WI 54115

  5. Lots of information here guys, thanks! Checking to see if you were able to get those wheel covers mounted to your '53 wheels Bulldog?

I'm eyeing up a set of '42 Wheel covers and would like to put them on a '56. Not shy to mount clips myself but if they won't work I'm planning to pass on the deal.

  6. After realizing it's definitely the core itself that's leaking, I took the temporary path forward of routing the feed hose direct to the return line cutting out the heating system. Getting ready to tuck her away for the winter, changed water out for coolant now that I can trust the rest of the cooling system. Now to prevent the Dynaflow from leaking out 3qts of fluid while on level ground Lol.

  7. I was lookng up what a Renco valve looks like when paging thru the manual last night. Came across this gents adventure of rebuilding one in the following page.

    https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/tech-ranco-heater-valve-repair.1159159/

To say the least...I'd rather try and find a replacement if that's the culprit. (And def not a NOS)

I'll take a closer look in the RH side tonight where the heater core is located as well as the floor like mentioned. Worse case I plan to pick up some 3/4" ball valves and block off the heating system temporarily.

Does one have to remove the RH fender to service the heater core?

So I've been wrenching on my new to me '56 Super to prevent the few leaks I bought it with. One of them was replacing the water pump that was leaking out the weep hole.

Picked up a reman from Flying Dutchman, replaced the old one, buttoned everything up tonight and took it for a shakedown and was happy to see no water running down the front of the engine anymore. That's the good news.

Bad news, while I've always wanted a sauna...didn't expect it to be in the form of a classic car. Noticed heat coming from the dash for the first time (had rad cap loose driving previously to prevent pressure in the system). After locking up the car for the night, it's pretty apparent that the heater system is adding some humidity in the cabin...(All windows are fogged up)

So, my first guess is I have a heater core that's leaking but before digging into all that I wanted to check with the community and see what your opinions of the culprit may be.

I think both the '56 and the '57 models are very handsome cars. But one is described as a Century and one is described as a Super. I naively thought all the four-holers were Roadmasters. Not so? Also, do these have the straight eight, or had they switched to V-8s?

    Thanks,

    Phil

The straight eights went way of the buffalo in 1954 I believe. That year Buick focused on the V8 nailhead and I believe was the debut year for the 264 and 322 depending on grade of car chosen. I've focused my knowledge on the '55s for many years and picked up on ancillary years by association.

  10. Well boys, just came inside after replacing the Front LH wheel cylinder and a reman Water Pump from Wade @Flying Dutchman. Thought I could use the previous lower rad hose only to find two frayed points along the mold line. Damn

Excited to pick the one I passed up Friday and fill her with coolant to see where else it leaks.

Oh...had this 8lbs of fattyness smokin all day while wrenching too :)

Hi, the rear quarter window binds up as you wind it down to the point where i am afraid to wind it down any further in case i break something. I am going to pull the upholstery trim to get access to the winding mechanism and see if i can find the problem. But I would be interested to know if anyone has any advice as to what is the likely problem before I start?

    Thanks

    Drew

Good morning Drew, hoping you dug into this issue and have some advise to share?

I have a 4dr Hardtop and have been pushing it to roll down the windows on the passenger side. Been spraying down the tracks with some aerosol window track spray from the previous owner and though they are moving somewhat better, I seems only a matter of time before something breaks (aside from the already spider webbed glass LOL).

    h

Before I tear off the deteriorated door panels, I'm looking for any advice from you and the community.

    Thanks Much!
