I OWN A 1929 COMMANDER MODEL FD.
I PURCHASED IT WITH OUT THE IGNITON KEY. THE ON OFF LEVER WORKS GOOD.
I HAVE TAKEN IT TWICE TO A CERTIFIED LOCKSMITH AND HE HAS FAILED TO MAKE A KEY FOR IT.
SO I AM LOOKING TO PURCHASE A NEW CYCLINDER WITH KEY OR AT LEAST ONE THAT WORKS.
ALSO INSTURCTRIONS ON REPLACING THE CYCLINDER.
ANY HELP OUT HERE?

I went to start my 1929 Commander ant the lever of the ignition switch just broke. Pot metal does not last forever.
I am hoping that one out there in Studebaker land would have one to sell me.
thanks for your consideration .

How is this handle attached to the opening mechanism? They were various methods. Could you show a photo?

I have restored a 1929 Model FD an eight cylinder model.
I have had problems, as parts are not easy to find. However by posting ads here and in the THE ANTIQUTE STUDEBAKER REVIEW. I have located them. Other 1929 owners are of great help.
It is a rewarding experience to restore a car not running and get it back on the street.
Good luck.

I think you are started in the right direction.
Using this forum to obtain parts was useful for me when I started to restore my 1929 Commander. I also join the Antique Studebaker club and meet some great owners of 29 commanders and I placed wanted ads in the magazine.
Yes, please post a photo of your car.

I decided to replace my brake linings so four questions
1.
Where can I obtain new linings or trade in my shoes for rebuilt brake shoes ?
2. What is the allowable inside dimension of the brake drum ?
3.
I have steel brake drums on my car is there a minimum wall thickness allowed on the drum ?
4.
Are cast iron drums available ?
Thanks for your comments/

I need a side mount tire locking bracket or arm that holds the tire in the wheel well of the fender. and the locks associated with this bracket.
I have one and it has a number casted in it. the number is 13952. there is a prefix which looks like the letter "A".
Can any one tell me if there are a right and left brackets or are they the same for both sides.
I also would like the original factory windshield wiper arms.
I would like to show my car, however I need these parts to make it look like it was delivered from the factory.
Thanks Dave

Cliff, the advice on not using an electric fuel pump is good advice. A friend of mine had one on his '53 Cadillac. He had a wreck while driving it and the electric fuel pump kept pumping. It added to the fire which ensued.
