I have a vintage KD signal switch (with 3 wires coming from it) and am trying to figure out how to wire it into my ‘37 Buick. How can this be done? I’m only a hobbyist and need your help!!

Sorry for chiming in so late (2013)...
I have a 1937 model 41 Buick which has a newly installed harness from Harnesses Unlimited and am attempting to put in a vintage turn signal switch . I have two issues on which I'd appreciate you help.
As for the turn signals, I have ordered a taillight converter (like is used on trailers); anyone have experience with one of those?
The other issue is that when I pull the light switch to the second position, the headlights work beautifully as do the fender lights. But when I depress the dimmer switch, the passenger headlight and both fender lights turn off. Any one encounter this kind of situation? I would appreciate any and all help.

I bought a re-conditioned radio for my 1937 Buick Special 35 years ago and have had it stored in my basement ever since. That car is long gone, but I recently bought another '37 Special. When I tried to install the radio, I discovered that the knobs are spaced farther apart than on my Special; it must belong to a larger model '37 Buick. I've heard of radios that can be placed in the space of the original radios, but that use the "face and knobs" of the original so it looks stock, but that it gives better quality reception. Has anyone had experience with such a conversion or advice before I spend more dollars?

I inherited my father is 1955 Packard clipper custom. It has been sitting in my garage for 17 years. I am trying to figure out how to attach the solenoid assembly and compensator switch. Are there any photographs that someone can send me that will help me properly place it on the car? Specifically, what makes contact with the compensator switch that makes it rotate one way or the other? If I know how it sits, I probably know the answer to that question. I don't know where else to get an answer. I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

Does anyone know where I can buy these for my Special? Bob's Automobilia is out

Thanks. Your pic of the latch is helpful

It's been a while since I took my '37 apart to paint. I should have taken pictures, but didn't. Well, now I'm trying to put it back together. Anyone out there have pics of the deck lid lock assembly? I have a photocopied Buick Body manual (page 48), but the pictures are hard to see.

Thanks for the advice

Being limited on funds, is it advisable to cut my own flat glass for my '37 Special? May I use tempered glass or must it be laminated?

I'm thinking of converting my stock 6 volt system to a 12 volt on my '37 Special. Is this smart or is it not worth the effort?

Hey, Les...
Clearly, the 1937 - 1938 Torque Tube articles, while helpful, are not enough. I can only hope that someone who knows how to do the swap lives close enough to do the swap for me. Thanks for your insight/tips.

Thanks for all the replies. I have all the parts (gears, ring and pinion, et cetera) from the differential of a '37 Century, which need to be placed into my '37 Special. I would think that placing them is difficult. Would it be easier to do the swapout by having the entire drive train (axles and all minus the tranny) and put that in?

Thank you for your responses. I certainly will not tackle the job until I get more familiar with the process. Your comments are a good start. I'm concerned because rivets are used in the original differential and don't know if I can safely use bolts when I put in the new gears. Then there's the tube length. I'll carefully read the Tube Tech articles. Thanks again for your responses.

I have the gears and tube of a '37 Buick Century rear differential that I would like to swap into my '37 Special. Anyone with experience doing this? Any tips?

I need to replace the 2 small rubber pads (3/4" wide x 1/8" thick) that are located half way up on each side of the door column that helps hold the latch from the door when you close it. Two questions: what are these pads called and where can I get replacements? I've looked through the catalogs from Bob's Automobilia and Steele Rubber with no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated

I am restoring a '37 Buick, model 41. I am putting the vehicle back together, but it has been many years since I took off the hood latches that I don't remember how to put them back on. I know, I should have taken more pictures! Does anyone have pics of that area of the car that I can look at? Or can someone direct me to a reference I can use? I would appreciate any help.Bobby Rodd

I'd like to swap out my '37 40 series differential with that of a '37 60 Series. I have the gears and torque tube from the 60. How difficult is this to do? Who do I go to to get this done?

Great pics; nice toys. Thanks for your help.

As installed on the trunk of 1939 Buicks?
These were the first turn signals on Buicks.
Yes. A pic of the turn signal itself and the switch, too, would be great to see. Also, were there any other GM cars that had OEM turn signals prior to Buick's '39?

Does anyone have a pic of an original pre-war Buick turn signal?

Thanks, again, for your willingness to help
12 volt step-down to 9 volts

I’ve been told that when cars were transitioning from 6v to 12v that some people went with a 12v battery and used a “step down “ which took the voltage to 8 or 9. Has anyone heard of or tried this? Does it work? If it does, what’s the down side?
