I recently spend some time working on the vent windows for my 1954 Buick.  I had ordered semi-tubular rivets and the required setting tool.  Check with vendors to see what diameter and length of rivets they have available.

    Thanks. I will do that.

  2. Working on the vent window. I have a kit where the rivits are replaced with screws. However I would like to use rivits.

So I'm trying to find the correct ones.

Also working on the side glass.

  3. It is a nice surprise to discover that a part has become available. That is one of the benefits when a restoration takes too long time to finish. 🤣

These windshield channel to fender drain tubes are now available. Big thanks to the companies that continue to make parts available.

Working on the rear windows. Took a few attemps to remember how all the parts fit and how they should be installed.

Rear glass is the original, looks like it will clean up nicely. I have new side glass and new windshield in the blue tone.

Would it be possible to see a closeup picture of the brushed pattern in your stainless dash trim?  I really like that one and I need to see if the stainless shop can copy it.

    Here it is.

  5. Last update was in January 2023. That is a long time ego. However I have been working on the car. So here are a few pictures.

In October it moved out of the garage on its own power for the first time in 20 years 😀 that was a big moment.

The front end is on and I'm getting the bumper ready to go on also.

I should have a nice extra plastic instrument cluster face if you need one.

  7. Continue to hook up the harness.

This is a trial assembly so I can get the engine started again and test electrical connections.

I need a new face for the instrument cluster as it is cracked.

    Radio not going in yet.

  8. Dashboard is in. Not fully mounted and not fully assembled.

Wheels are on and it is down from the jack stands 😀

Next is to get it fired up again, making everything works before the front end gets assembled.

Any suggestions to where I can buy a battery that looks like an original? it is difficult to find one that has the correct width.

Are you certain your car came like that?  If so, I think you have a very unusual car.  I've never seen another 57 with masticated rubber over those painted panels, and I've seen many.

    Hi lancemb,

    Yes, I'm sure.

Here are pictures I took when I disassembled it between 2003 and 2005.

As far as I understand it was assembled the 2nd week of January 1957 at South Gate.

My baileywick is the first generation Riviera. They came with either 5.5” or 6” wheels.  The 5.5” was stock, the 6” came when the optional “oversized tire” was ordered.  In the day, all 5 tire/wheel sets were used in rotation so all 5 wheels should be the same width.

Thanks for the info. That makes sense.

  11. Rim and tires are ready.

I had one bad rim, so I was looking a replacement. Not easy to find an exact match.

Found 2 that came very close.

The spare tire rim was 0.5 inch smaller in width, dont know if that is correct from the factory or it might have been changed at some point.

They are definitely on small series.  I took them off the Special 2 dr. Sedan parts car I had and sent them to Jim Pickard for his wagon.  I wanted them for the convertible but they weren't the same of course.

    Looks great!  Awesome work!

One thing to note though is that you may have a hard time getting tail lights on with bumper already on, given the long studs on the lower housing and the lip that tucks behind the bumper end.

Thanks Lancemb and thanks for the hint - I was very careful and not that frustrated, because of the heads-up.

Tried to get them on - no luck.

Would not risk scratching the paint 😰, so the bumper will come of again 😟

But now I know the bumper fits very nicely 😆😆

  15. Yes, here comes an update.

Last year my son got his first car, a 74' Vette. It needed some work and we spend much father and son time.

It was so rewarding working on his car with him, however it also meant that I have not done much on the '57 Buick.

But here is some photos and today we got the rear bumper on.
