I am very excited since I have recently purchased a 37 V-12 one off club sedan. It has a longer wheelbase (144) than the other clubs. It is my first classic. Now the realistic concerns start. I want to trailer it to events (tours, packard regional events etc). I plan to drive it a lot but I am in a rural area and most of these events will be 200+ miles away. It will be delivered in a few months. Now the question. I want an enclosed trailer. The car weighs about 6200lbs but I have a good truck that can easily pull well over 12000 so the towing weight shouldn't be an issue. I think I need a 22-24 foot trailer. I don't want to spend all my kids inheritance! Suggestions please. Brand. New or used. Should I get a winch? Thanks in advance

Couldn't agree more. Certainly some exceptions. There was a 33 or 34 packard closed sedan at Barrett that I felt went way too high. I was at Gooding and there were a few "muscle car" type cars that didn't do too well. Guess it works both ways.

Yes I am looking at pre war sedans. I did look at the Packard Info site and it indicated indirectly that leather was an option but I have not seen any other sedans with it except for the one I saw in an Internet ad. Dave Mitchell said he has not seen it on a closed sedan unless it was chauffeur driven and then only on the front seat. He was going to see if a 1934 salesman brochure he has might have the info. Thanks for your opinions. I am looking at a Ford Excursion (2001)with a 7.3 l diesel. The 7.3 has a good history. It's a big "car" but should tow well.

I know there is another forum for this but it seems to basically be a forum for arranging transportation. I would like anybody's thoughts on the best kind of vehicle for towing a 6000+ lbs car and appropriate trailer. I've gotten a lot of info, some of which is contradictory. Diesel vs. gasoline. Is a truck necessary or will a large SUV (most likely gasoline) do the trick? Closed vs. open trailer. 4WD vs. 2WD. I will only be towing to tours and shows so I won't be putting huge numbers of miles on the vehicle. It won't be used for much else except for a few odds and ends around the house. I will not be taking it off road but could run into some occasional snow. Also will occasionally do some mountain driving but certainly no off road driving. I would like to keep the cost reasonable so am looking at 1998-2005 or so vehicles. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. jvsb

I am more interested in the differences between the formal and club for the pre-war packards (mainly 33-37 or so). THanks again for your input but must admit I am still a little fuzzy about the issue.

I see several ads for club sedans but few for formal sedans. Being new to this could someone explain the difference? Are formal sedans more rare? Thanks in advance.

Thought I would let you know that the car sold for its asking price. I didn't buy it but it was a very nice car. I have some regrets but having just started with this Packard obsession I was not quite ready. thanks for your input.

It is a Standard. One of the shows was a Packard Show. One was a Los Angeles concourse where it came in 2nd to another car that finished very well at Pebble Beach. None of the shows was a "local shopping mall". I think they were all CCCA sanctioned. As far as I know the engine was a complete rebuild. I am looking at a 1934 Club Sedan that had a complete restoration about 4 years ago. It has won a first and 3 seconds in closed car contests. I have seen about 30 pix and it seems to be essentially in perfect condition. The asking price is about $76800. Does this seem in the ballpark for price? Thanks.
