  1. In regards to my Packard neo-classic that was built in the 1980's -

    "Is that real?"

    "No, its a hologram."

    In regards to my daily driver 1991 Cadillac six-door limousine -

    "Was that a limo?"

    "It is a limo, it was a sedan."

    In regards to any of my six hearses -

    "Is that a real hearse?"

    "Have you ever seen a fake one?"

    "Don't you know that only Cadillac built hearses?"

    "Then explain this Packard/Lincoln/Mercury/Oldsmobile one we're standing in front of."

    (And that's completely ignoring the discussion about "no, as a matter of fact, Cadillac never did build any hearses on their own.")

    And using the logic that a stupid question deserves a stupid answer -

    "Have you ever had s** in the back?"

    "That depends. Do you mean with living people?"

    You can tell the genuinely interested from the just plain ignorant, regardless as to the questions they ask. The genuinely interested, I'll gladly talk to as long as they want. The just plain ignorant usually have already made up their mind about your car and no answer you can give will change their already decided upon belief. In those cases, I'm happy to think to myself "go wander off now and continue being an idiot".

  2. Have you guys heard of the Bayliff Coach Corporation of Lima, Ohio? Bayliff had the rights to the Packard name for awhile, and built two kinds of cars. One kind were neo-classics that captured the general flavor of 1930s era Packards, without actually being a replica of any one Packard in particular. The other and more common kind was they would take a then-new General Motors sedan or coupe, and customize it into their idea of what a modern Packard might have looked like.

    I am wondering if the Bayliff cars would fit into this class. Bayliff began doing his cars in 1979, so some of them now meet the 25 year age requirement. I think the gray area is that they were modifications of existing cars, rather than built from scratch cars, but at the same time, they were a factory modification, not a kit and not someone in their backyard. Approximately 200 Bayliff Packards were constructed.

  3. I enjoy looking at old boats and old campers almost as much as I enjoy old cars. So I have what I hope is a simple question. Does the AACA have a policy either allowing or forbidding a stock antique trailer being displayed with an antique car towing it? Just wondering.

  4. I am a brand new member of AACA, and frankly, this postcard nonsense makes me question if I want to continue with my membership if this is the way AACA chooses to do business. As I see it, the postcard is an outright lie, plain and simple. The postcard claims that you need to call to varify your information. Baloney. AACA already has my correct information, or I wouldn't have gotten the card. I did call, only to find out that nothing needed to be varified at all. They had all my correct information. What you actually call for is to receive a sales pitch to buy this book, which, by the way, isn't due out until November, but of course your credit card gets charged now for it. I say shame on you AACA. I thought you were a more reputable organization than to stoop to disceptive sales practices like this.
