Ranco valve. Thermostat type water temp control. They are rebuildable...............Bob
easy removal? - I assume from interior - or from engine compartment
-
just for Giggles - Last summer I made a Guitar Amp (with some styling cues from the car....3 port holes, sweepspear, and emblem) - I call it 55 Special - here are some pics of it:
-
If soaking does not work, just replace them. I had a local lawn/garden equipment place duplicate --- perfect match, cheap and functional without the aggravation.
Duct: All Buick suppliers should have it (Bob's Automobilia, etc)
Willie
good call on the lawn mower cables - i freed mine up sufficently enough......
when i slide my LEFT (driver) side control from SUMMER all the way to WINTER.......antifreeze begins to drip from the passenger side of the Firewall.......
this is the culprit here (behind duct outlet - in grey)
what is it? i assume maybe a thermosts control - in the manual - It states the cars have some sort of climate control....
thoughts?
-
in the process shakin' the old car down - i have come to realize i do not like HEAT on my FEET in Summer - therefore i need to adjust the heat in this ole girl ......it's kinda "stuck" on LHS.....
my plan is to remove heat control cable - and get some pentrating oil on them to free them up - prior to distorting any more heat levers - due to binding - SOUND ABOUT RIGHT? - anyone hve any tips - I have some "soaking" now
second - where is a good source for the cloth duct hoses?
- the big one in the engine compatment - need cloth one
- under the dash - not as concearned - 'cuz it's under the dash

Just showed my wife the pics.
She had a great point. You notice the gorgeous gold car with the black wheels. You notice the wheels with the red ones.
She has been around me too long.
She DID call it gorgeous, BTW.
i couldn't agree more
your wife is a smart lady!
tell her thanks........she has good taste
-
thanks guys
red wheels huh.....we'll have to see 'bout that
as far as the roof dents - i have no idea - niether did the prev owner........
-
I knew I knew it from somewhere. For what another opinion is worth, I like your car with the red wheels and dog dish hubcaps. Sets off the whitewalls nicely. A matching red and white tuck 'n roll interior would be just the thing - but there I go, opinionating again.
thanks - i still have thew red set intact - (the red wheels have the hub cao clips -)
BUT
the tires on the red wheels are tiny compared to the black wheels
-
high build primer and sand and sand
no foolin - I sanded my finger prints right off
my lil girl (don't panic - she only sanded for like 5 minutes
now color time - maybe the hardest choice is choosing color (when not staying Stock)
again shooting her myself in that lil garage
TPR has a HVLP 3 Gun Set for $99 - that did the job ok enough for me
after clear and roof white:
some assemble required
mother .....happy to see the project comin along
tried RED wheels and Hub caps - NOT FEELIN THE LOVE though
well here we are Back in Black
with my 65 Bel Air Wagon in the background - HEY MOM - this one is moving in to the garge while the Buick is out! - sorry
ME
-
people questioned my insanity here and there - but I set myself a time frame in Spring of 2012 - i want to drive this ol girl to Lead East this year - come Hell or Highwater.....
-
dis-assemble and more dis-assemble
POR15 the floors
bring her on down to bare metal
patch panel not addressed YET
Epoxy Primed and stored foe winter #2 (2010-11)
this was a rewarding step - i like to paint - all done in the lil ol garage in background (on weekends here and there)
-
as bought
crude patch panel hidden below sweepspear in front of rear wheel - a common issue
ouch (i spent an afternoon with a hammer and dollie - a lot of this out)
i contemplated swapining the roof out - and glad I Didn't
-
My car is a 55 Buick Special
Cost was around 3500 - maybe i over paid - but whats done is done
I'll take you throught the photos Start - to Current (cuz for me - they're never done)
yep got her on ebay - crazy as it seams - but thats how it happened......the following is the original ad:

Jenkins provided a complete interior kit for my 55. I'll tell you about it but unless it's by PM it will be deleted if I verbalize the myriad problems and deficiencies that came with it..................Bob
pm me and let it rip!
thanks guys regarding the pint -
I sprayed it myself in moms garage, gold = Inca Gold (PT Cruiser/Prowler) and white is Ermine
the gold really snaps in the sun - i'm happy
here's a silly one of me:
and a few more (red wheels are gone) - i changed to the black and more content with that
-
....do you still have the lug bolts?
if so that may be an issue w/ wheels that require a "shank" lug nut (ie Cragar)- food for thought
-
Well it's time to move into the "gut" of the car - I am looking for a "jumping" off point to gather some interior items:
Carpet
Seat kits
door panels
if it comes down to it I may need the custom route -
anybody have any resorces (online - stock)
i found this carpet :
Buick Special Carpet Replacement Kit - 1954, 1955, 1956, 1957, 1958
anyone use these and have a review?
here she is up to date:
-
if not Olds should work too - 1954-6
-
thanks guys - i'll update the post when i install the clips and lyk how it turned out
-
Resto Specialties - never got back to me (their web site has a lot of Mopar items listed though)
I gonna try this kit (and add my existing Push In style door clips)...to cobble together a full set (hopefully) - due to the Buick having more trim connecting points ('cuz of the wheel arc and such)
Ecklers
just an FYI - the price was ok for the amount of fasteners
gettin ther
-
hey all
Mid 50's Buick have chrome emblems which attach with post and clips - i am wondering the procedure for re-attachement
A) re-move clips from emblem - slide emblem on and secure from behind with clips
remove clips - insert clips into "holes - push emblem into
C) leave clips on posts and push emblem into place
any help is greatly appriciated - i just don't wanna mess with the new paint
-
or better yet - find a Century one w/ the sweeping redline - very cool -
-
please do not try to evaluate my situation with this car in such a negative light. I am only trying to share the buick history with those who are interested. There were a few buyers interested in the car, and one went so far as to diable the vehicle to deter other potential buyers while they were negotiating. The top is original, it has some defects. All interior and chrome is original as well, the pictures make some of the parts look better than they are. We are still on the fence debating a full restoration or continuing our efforts on our mopars, so please do not take us as a couple of guys just trying to make a buck.
HA HA
you come off like an AD
outta curiosity - when you purchased this car from the little old lady - did you describe your intentions of re-selling it for profit?
if ya did - kudos for you
if not - did you use a line like "wow I've been looking a long time for one of these"......and then start pointing out all of the flaws in order chip away at the price
and since we are on the subject - what kinda person is "the wrong hands"?
my take are there are 3 kinds of people interested in a car like this....ones who'll restore it and ones who will enjoy as is......and then theres a third - a re-seller
no-one and i mean no one buys one of these to "hot rod", lowride etc
i see it all the time - sell it on ebay - obviously - your are mearly "priming the pump" here
-
Although there are lots of clip there are only 6-7 different ones. Let me know what model you have and I will scan a page that shows what you need. It also helps to have remnants of the original clips.
Willie
1955 2 door Special Riviera Hardtop
thank you
i do have some - but some were damaged when removed - thay are at moms house (where car is - just sprayed it this week!)
THANK YOU!!!!!
for s/g
-
I getting closer to wrapping up my 55 - anyone have a source for the sweepspear trim fasteners? - also how about rear window trim as well - thanks in advance
-
The car will be for sale soon, as we only bought it to preserve such a rare car from falling into the wrong hands.
I have no problem with ya buying to re-sell it - but you really shouldn't "come off" like you are doing anyone a favor - maybe you are the wrong person since you bought it for a monetery gain
the next buyer yeah gets the car fine - but - the middle man is after one thing MONEY
I understand money make the world go 'round - but c'mon - don't come off like a hero
heat controls stuck AND cloth heat duct hoses - where to buy?
in Buick - General
