  1. I have a shop Manuel for my Adventurer. It goes into great detail on removing the instrument cluster,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,for a Chrysler or Imperial! Neither of which is in any way shape or form similar to a Desoto dash. Do I have a morphodite  book ??????   I'm trying  to have the guages  & speedo repaired. Can anyone tell me where I can find this information?

    Thanks

  2. I've the torqueflite done twice since the car was restored. The results are less than satisfactory. Now I'm stuck with a totally restored car with  a trans that shifts into gear only after the car warms up, (you have to let it wind in gear for a while when first started) shifts very hard, and vibrates in reverse. Is it possible that there are any other causes for these symtoms?

    Thanks

  4. So I  parked my 60 Desoto Adventurere yeaterday after a long ride & today the push buttons on my torque flight trans seem to be locked or ? I can't push any of them in or will the car start. It does roll freely so I don't think it's locked in gear.

    Thanks

  5. I'm changing all four of my toy cars to Pertronix Ignition, three are Mopars. We're instructed to bypass the ballast resistor. My concern is that there are two wires that go to the reduced side of the resistor, 1 brown, one blue. From what I can discern in the shop manual, one wire goes to the distributor & one to the coil, if that's the case do I include both in the bypass or does one of these wires go elsewhere?

I also have a 63 Galaxie & the instruction is to bypass or remove the resistor wire & run the system full 12vt,

    Thanks

  6. On both my 56 Windsor & 60 Adventurer, the rear brakes howls after sitting for a day or so when you firsty start to move. After driving a few feet, the noise stops & doesn't reappear till the car(s) sit again. The exception to this is the DeSoto where the rear brake actually locks up & stops the car when uou first starts to move, this to stops after driving a few feet.

Is this worth taking on removing the rear drums on these cars?

    Thanks.

  7. The carbs (2) on my 331 Windsor EATS accelerator pumps. Whenever I replace one I get a good full stream, when I open the throttle one or two times. After that the gas just dribbles" out when I open the throttle. I even took to removing one of the carbs, (4bbl) to see if that would make a difference. I have to pump the pedal & crank until my leg gets numb,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and then it starts!

Am I looking for a special type of pump or is the carb N/G

    Thanks

  8. Can anyone suggest a contact who will service a circa 1970 Sun model 1015 engine analyzer. I'm unable to get a full ignition pattern on the scope. It worked well when it was demonstrated at the time of purchase but I think the 400 mile trip home made for a problem.

I live about 100 miles S/W of St Louis Mo.

    Thanks

  9. The 4bbl carb on my 56 with the 331 has been rebuilt 3 times, once by me & twice by "professionals", it still takes constant pumping with the starter engaged before it will fire. After it sits overnight, you can still gas flow into the throat by moving the throttle so it isn't draining. This plays hell with the starter.

After I had the mufflers replaced, an exhaust leak developed on the drivers side between the manifold & the heat riser & exhaust pipe. I tried gaskets on either side of the riser with no luck. Am I missing something? do I need a donut(s) I brought it back to the shop who did the work but they won't address the issue being afraid to "snap an ear off", constant comment is "it's an old car",,,,,,,,,,,,,, Really?

Any thoughts to any oft his?

    Thanks

  10. The heater/AC fan on my 68 Newport runs at what seems to me a low speed even on hi. It takes forever to cool the car, (factory air) I've replaced the fan with what is supposed to be OEM & the switch. I seem to remember Chrysler getting a lot of flack for the low fan speeds pre mid 70's when they brought out the Cordova and made a big thing out of the blower speed in their commercials. Is there a faster turning fan out there?.

  11. The 331 CID on my 56 Windsor has an issue, it won't start! It has been gone over by two different mechanics plus myself. Distributer, coil, plugs, several sets of points, fuel pump, carb, all replaced. Gas is fresh. Timing was checked by pulling #1 plug & aligning timing marks with piston at TDC.

Of note: Engine will crank smoothly by jumping starter relay, but will "bog down" while cranking from ignition switch.?????????

    Any thoughts?

  12. When we bought this car the neutral safety switch was not working. After the rebuild I found a starter solenoid from a later year Mopar, ( it looks like the one on my 68 Newport). In any case, the guys who rebuilt the trans claim the switch is working & the issue is the wiring. Is the wire from the switch supposed to ground at a terminal on the starter solenoid?

Could the issue be that I have the wrong solenoid on the car, is there a separate terminal for the neutral switch on the correct solenoid that belongs on the car?

Also where can I get the gauges repaired?

    Thanks

  13. Can anyone please explain the function of the the vacuum advance? We have gone through this engine several times by several people & can't find a continues mis. If the advance is disconnected it will run, roughly, but it will run. Connect the vacuum advance & it barely runs. I should note that this engine is a modification, it has dual quads ala the full hemi. Could this be part of the issue?

    Thanks

  14. Would it be necessary for my Newport to "jump time" for the chain to N/G? I've gone over the ignition & fuel systems on this car twice & can't find what seems to be a highway speed "mis". It's a "push- pull" sensation, almost like you were buffing a cross wind. Also has a rough idle, city driving is OK.

    ????????????????

    I'm lost!
