  1. Dear all,

I know we have discussed this switch elsewhere, (http://forums.aaca.org/attachments/f143/29042d1246001667t-1929-dodge-da6-36804.jpg), but never got to the issue of connections.

Does anyone know what is usually connected to the 6 terminals on a DA6?

Mine is finally functional, but wires are confused (including the central one to the horn). Some people seem to connect park lights and headlights together, but what about high-beam? Any old diagrams would be appreciated.

  2. Thanks 1930.

That's a relief. I thought my '29 DA had some aftermarket master cylinder fitted. I will check with that supplier (where is Napa?) to see if I can get a replacement. The one I have seems permanently shorted out, so the lights are always on.

  3. Sorry for the delay, these are replacements (PBR) and my 3 hoses are all the same length front and back. That's as good as I can measure under the car... only the hose length, the threaded fittings add extra.

  4. Hmmmm.... thanks for that. The DH6 is clearly different as it is not circular, but the DA looks to be as low as possible. It all depends on the volume of oil required, and I would have thought the lowest position was too low to hold 4 pints? I had memory of it being about 4 o'clock, but I can find no photos to prove it.

  5. I have had the diff on my 1929 DA apart for sometime.

I realised on re-assembly that the domed 'banjo' cover can go back in any of a dozen orientations. I want to set the oil filler hole at the correct level, so can someone say at which height the filler plug should be?

Imagine the banjo as a clock face (from the rear of the car) .... Does the filler plug go at 3 o'clock, 4 o'clock or 5 o'clock?

  6. Hi Vern,

It already is a 6-wheeler with two spares on the guards. Does this mean it was 7-wheeler? I have seen somewhere on this forum (but long since lost it), a rack with 2 cast iron brackets holding what looks like a 2-piece pressed metal rack that is hinged in the middle. There are also bolt holes in the bumperette supports that appear to take a rack. (look closely)

  7. I have gone crazy looking for reference photos ... but I am looking to buy/build what I think is a folding luggage rack that bolts to the rear of a 1929 DA Roadster. It is Oz-bodied, and the bolt holes are as shown in this photo..

I believe it is pressed metal and folds??

  8. Hi RobV,

Thanks for that. Pricey is right! I would appreciate the diameter of the locking rod ... also the longer vertical rod that goes up to the top clamp. I can't see how that attaches at the bottom end. Does the locking rod pass through it, or does it also screw into the rear block (which is missing on mine)?

  9. A late call ... but IF you get any spares, I am interested for a DA roadster in Oz. I have the front blocks that take the lock mechanism, but no rear blocks or locking rods on either side. As you say, impossible to source. I have been looking for a decent photo of a finished assembly to see how difficult remaking them might be.

  10. Hey thanks Elmo,

That's enough confidence for me to get a gasket set and see. I have looked at Myers website to try and match pictures of gaskets to my engine, and I think I will be OK to order one based on the '50s age. Would it be sufficient to describe it as 25" long block Chrysler?

  11. At least we are spreading the local language! In Australia, remove anything after the first syllable, and then add "ie", hence dizzie, gennie, carbie, hemi, leftie, ... it saves typing and unnecessary talking.

But sorry, the stamp definitely reads "TE1-2784..." and it is fitted with a Delco-Remy generator. So, this remains a mystery.

I guess any Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth flat-6 gaskets will fit?

  12. I have a side-valve 6-cylinder engine fitted to a DA Roadster, and would like to accurately identify it before ordering any gaskets/components. I am aware that it is not the original for the car, but the engine is as follows:

    * length of head approx. 25 inches

    * K209 cast in the head

    * #1534099 stamped on the head

    * 1402529 cast in the block along with the DPCD logo

    * fitted with downdraft Ball & Ball carburettor

    * currently running on 12 volts

    * mechanical fuel pump on front RHS of block

Any suggestions would be appreciated. It's clearly a Chrysler/Dodge/Desoto, but that's all I can guess.
